The troops of the Kalinin Front, after two days of fighting, broke the enemy's resistance and on 21 September took by storm one of the Germans' powerful defensive strongpoints — the town of Demidov.

In the fighting for the liberation of the town of Demidov, the troops of Lieutenant-General Golubev distinguished themselves; among those who especially distinguished themselves were:

The 262nd Rifle Division of Major-General Usachev, the 270th Rifle Division of Colonel Belyayev, the 114th Rifle Brigade of Colonel Yegoshin, the 105th Tank Regiment of Lieutenant-Colonel Pavlov, the 43rd Red Banner Gun Artillery Regiment of Colonel Dydyshko, the 118th Mortar Regiment of Lieutenant-Colonel Melnikov, the 273rd Engineer Battalion of Major Alekseyev.

To commemorate the successes achieved, these formations and units shall be awarded the designation "Demidov" and shall henceforth be named:

262nd Demidov Rifle Division,

270th Demidov Rifle Division,

114th Demidov Rifle Brigade,

105th Demidov Tank Regiment,

43rd Red Banner Demidov Gun Artillery Regiment,

118th Demidov Mortar Regiment,

273rd Demidov Engineer Battalion.
