The troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, resuming their offensive, broke through the strong German defences in the Uman direction and in five days of offensive engagements advanced from 40 to 70 kilometres, widening the breakthrough to 175 kilometres along the front.

As a result of the operation carried out, the troops of the Front captured the town of Uman, the town and important railway junction of Khristinovka, the district centres of Kiev Region — Talnoye, Buki, Mankovka, Babanka, and Yekaterinopol — the district centre of Vinnitsa Region — Monastyrishche — and more than 300 other populated places.

In the course of the offensive our troops inflicted a heavy defeat on six German tank divisions, seven infantry divisions, and one artillery division, capturing more than 500 tanks and self-propelled guns, of which more than 200 are fully serviceable "Tigers," "Panthers," and "Ferdinands," approximately 600 field guns of various calibres, and more than 12,000 motor vehicles.

Distinction in the fighting was won by the tankmen of Lieutenant-General of Tank Troops Bogdanov, Lieutenant-General of Tank Troops Kravchenko, and Marshal of Armoured Troops Rotmistrov; the troops of Lieutenant-General Trofimenko, Lieutenant-General Koroteyev, Lieutenant-General Zhmachenko, and Lieutenant-General Galanin; the artillerymen of Lieutenant-General of Artillery Fomin, Major-General of Artillery Lebedev, Major-General of Artillery Faustov, and Major-General of Artillery Gusarov; and the airmen of Lieutenant-General of Aviation Goryunov.

To commemorate the victory achieved, the formations and units that distinguished themselves most in the fighting shall be recommended for conferment of the designation "Umansky" and for award of orders.

Today, 10 March, at 21.00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland, will salute the valiant troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, which broke through the German defences and routed the Uman–Khristinovka grouping of the enemy, with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I express my gratitude to all the troops under your command who carried out the breakthrough and the destruction of the Uman–Khristinovka German grouping.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!

Death to the German invaders!

Supreme Commander-in-Chief

Marshal of the Soviet Union I. STALIN
