ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Army General Malinovsky

The troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, having forced the River Dnieper in its lower reaches, captured the town of Berislav and, developing their offensive, today, 13 March, as a result of street fighting, captured the town of Kherson — a large junction of railway and water communications and an important strongpoint of the German defences at the mouth of the River Dnieper.

Distinction in the fighting was won by the troops of Lieutenant-General Grechkin, Major-General Rubanyuk, Colonel Margelov, and Colonel Dorofeyev; the artillerymen of Lieutenant-General of Artillery Nedelin and Major-General of Artillery Osmolovsky; the tankmen of Lieutenant-General of Tank Troops Sviridov; the airmen of Lieutenant-General of Aviation Sudets; and the pontoon troops of Lieutenant-General of Engineering Troops Kotlyar and Colonel Sergeyev.

To commemorate the victory achieved, the formations and units that distinguished themselves most in the fighting for the liberation of the towns of Kherson and Berislav shall be recommended for conferment of the designations "Khersonsky" and "Berislavsky" and for award of orders.

Today, 13 March, at 22.00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland, will salute the valiant troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, which captured the towns of Kherson and Berislav, with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I express my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of the towns of Kherson and Berislav.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!

Death to the German invaders!

Supreme Commander-in-Chief

Marshal of the Soviet Union I. STALIN
