ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Marshal of the Soviet Union Zhukov

The troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front today, 25 March, after stubborn fighting, captured by storm the town of Proskurov — a large railway junction and powerful strongpoint of the German defences.

Distinction in the fighting for the capture of the town of Proskurov was won by the troops of Colonel-General Grechko, Major-General Gordeyev, Major-General Shmygo, and Colonel Chorny; the tankmen of Colonel-General Rybalko, Major-General of Tank Troops Malygin, and Lieutenant-General of Tank Troops Panfilov; the artillerymen of Colonel-General of Artillery Varentsov, Major-General of Artillery Brichenok, Major-General of Artillery Volkenshtein, and Major-General of Artillery Sanko; the airmen of Colonel-General of Aviation Krasovsky, Major-General of Aviation Golovnya, Major-General of Aviation Lakeyev, Colonel Kotelnikov, and Colonel Nechiporenko; and the sappers of Colonel Stonoga.

To commemorate the victory achieved, the formations and units that distinguished themselves most in the fighting for the liberation of the town of Proskurov shall be recommended for conferment of the designation "Proskurovsky" and for award of orders.

Today, 25 March, at 21.00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland, will salute the valiant troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front, which captured the town of Proskurov, with twelve artillery salvoes from one hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I express my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of the town of Proskurov.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
