ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Marshal of the Soviet Union Zhukov

The troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front, developing their offensive, forced the river Prut and captured by storm the regional city of Ukraine, Chernovtsy — an important economic and political centre of Northern Bukovina and a powerful strongpoint of the German defences on the river Prut, covering the approaches to the frontiers of Hungary and Romania.

In the fighting for the capture of the city of Chernovtsy, distinction was won by the troops of Lieutenant-General of Tank Troops Katukov, Major-General Zamertsev, Major-General Prokhorov; the tankmen of Lieutenant-General of Tank Troops Getman, Major-General Dremov, Colonel Morgunov, Colonel Koshelev, Lieutenant-Colonel Gusakovsky, Lieutenant-Colonel Boiko, Lieutenant-Colonel Kochura; the artillerymen of Colonel Vishnevsky, Colonel Kamensky; the sappers of Major-General of Engineer Troops Blagoslavov, Colonel Kharchevin; and the airmen of Major-General of Aviation Lakeyev, Colonel Nechiporenko, Colonel Fedulyev.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units that distinguished themselves most in the fighting for the liberation of the city of Chernovtsy shall be recommended for conferment of the designation "Chernovtsy" and for award of orders.

Today, 30 March, at 20:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, on behalf of the Motherland, will salute the valiant troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front, who captured the city of Chernovtsy, with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I declare my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of the city of Chernovtsy.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the fighting for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!

Death to the German invaders!
