ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Marshal of the Soviet Union Zhukov

The troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front, having defeated the enemy in the foothills of the Carpathians, have reached our State Frontier with Czechoslovakia and Romania along a front of up to 200 kilometres. Pursuing the retreating enemy, the troops of the Front captured the city of Siret and occupied more than 30 other populated localities on Romanian territory.

In the fighting for the advance to our south-western State Frontier, distinction was won by the troops of Lieutenant-General of Tank Troops Katukov, Major-General Zamertsev, Major-General Prokhorov, Major-General Zamirovsky, Colonel Lemantovich; the tankmen of Lieutenant-General of Tank Troops Getman, Major-General Dremov, Lieutenant-Colonel Boiko; the artillerymen of Colonel Vishnevsky, Colonel Razumovsky; the airmen of Major-General of Aviation Galunov; and the sappers of Colonel Sokolov, Major Temkin, Major Yakovlev.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units that distinguished themselves most in the fighting for the defeat of the enemy in the Carpathian foothills and for the advance to our south-western State Frontier shall be recommended for conferment of the designation "Carpathian" and for award of orders.

Today, 8 April, at 20:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, on behalf of the Motherland, will salute the valiant troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front, who have reached our south-western State Frontier, with twenty-four artillery salvoes from three hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I declare my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the advance to our south-western State Frontier.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the fighting for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
