ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Marshal of the Soviet Union Konev

The troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front forced the river Prut north of the city of Iasi along a sector 170 kilometres long, broke through the enemy's defences, captured the cities of Dorohoi and Botosani, seized in fighting more than 150 other populated localities, and, pursuing the enemy troops, reached the river Siret along a front of 85 kilometres.

In the fighting for the breakthrough of the enemy's defences and for the forcing of the river Prut, distinction was won by the troops of Lieutenant-General Zhmachenko, Lieutenant-General Trofimenko, Lieutenant-General Koroteyev, Lieutenant-General Goryachev, Major-General Martirosyan, Major-General Bobrov, Major-General Mikhailov, Major-General Merkulov, Colonel Karlov, Colonel Gizatulin, Colonel Konev, Colonel Vronsky, Colonel Umansky, Colonel Kolesnikov, Colonel Puteyko; the tankmen of Major-General of Tank Troops Barausov, Colonel Styzik, Colonel Andreyev; the artillerymen of Major-General of Artillery Lebedev, Major-General of Artillery Faustov, Colonel Mentyukov; the airmen of Colonel Taranenko, Lieutenant-Colonel Shundrikov; and the sappers of Colonel Petrov, Colonel Ponimashe, Colonel Glezer, Colonel Pokrovsky, Colonel Budarin.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units that distinguished themselves most in the fighting for the breakthrough of the enemy's defences and for the forcing of the river Prut shall be recommended for conferment of the designation "Prut" and for award of orders.

Today, 8 April, at 21:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, on behalf of the Motherland, will salute the valiant troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, who broke through the enemy's defences and forced the river Prut, with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I declare my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the breakthrough of the enemy's defences and for the forcing of the river Prut.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the fighting for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!

Death to the German invaders!
