OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Army General Malinovsky

The troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front today, 10 April, as a result of a skilful outflanking manoeuvre by infantry and cavalry-mechanized formations combined with a frontal attack, captured the important economic and political centre of the country, the regional city of Ukraine and first-class port on the Black Sea — Odessa — a powerful strongpoint of the German defences covering the routes to the central regions of Romania.

In the fighting for the capture of Odessa, distinction was won by the troops of Colonel-General Tsvetayev, Lieutenant-General Shlemin, Colonel-General Chuykov, Lieutenant-General Glazunov, Lieutenant-General Morozov, Major-General Gorokhov, Major-General Rubanyuk, Major-General Kuprianov, Major-General Makovchuk; the cavalry formations of Kuban Cossacks under Lieutenant-General Pliyev; the tankmen of Major-General of Tank Troops Zhdanov; the artillerymen of Colonel-General of Artillery Nedelin, Lieutenant-General of Artillery Voznyuk, Major-General of Artillery Levin, Major-General of Artillery Kosenko; the airmen of Colonel-General of Aviation Sudets, Major-General of Aviation Tolstikov, Major-General of Aviation Shevchenko; and the signalmen of Lieutenant-General of Signal Troops Leonov.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units that distinguished themselves most in the fighting for the liberation of Odessa shall be recommended for conferment of the designation "Odessa" and for award of orders.

Today, 10 April, at 20:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, on behalf of the Motherland, will salute our valiant troops who liberated Odessa with twenty-four artillery salvoes from three hundred and twenty-four guns.

At the same time, the ships of the Black Sea Fleet shall fire a salute of twelve artillery salvoes from one hundred and twenty guns in honour of the troops who liberated the most important port on the Black Sea — Odessa — from the German invaders.

For excellent combat operations I declare my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of Odessa.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the fighting for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!

Death to the German invaders!

Supreme Commander-in-Chief
