ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Marshal of the Soviet Union Zhukov

The troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front, after stubborn street fighting, completely captured the regional centre of Ukraine, the city of Tarnopol — a large railway junction and a powerful strongpoint of the German defences in the Lvov direction.

In the fighting for the capture of Tarnopol, distinction was won by the troops of Colonel-General Kurochkin, Lieutenant-General Lyudnikov, Major-General Popov, Major-General Mishchenko, Colonel Ignachev, Colonel Kucherenko, Colonel Volkovich, Colonel Lashchenko; the artillerymen of Major-General of Artillery Frolov, Major-General of Artillery Volkinshteyn, Major-General of Artillery Volchek, Colonel Bogatyrev, Colonel Dzevulsky, Colonel Lyubimov, Colonel Reutov, Colonel Titenko, Colonel Chevola, Colonel Belov, Lieutenant-Colonel Bazylenko; the tankmen of Lieutenant-General of Tank Troops Poluboyarov, Major-General of Tank Troops Romanov; the airmen of Major-General of Aviation Kamanin, Major-General of Aviation Galunov, Major-General of Aviation Fedulyev, Colonel Yuzeyev; and the sappers of Colonel Serebryakov.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units that distinguished themselves most in the fighting for the liberation of Tarnopol shall be recommended for conferment of the designation "Tarnopol" and for award of orders.

Today, 15 April, at 20:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, on behalf of the Motherland, will salute the valiant troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front, who captured the city of Tarnopol, with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I declare my gratitude to the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of Tarnopol.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the fighting for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
