ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Army General Yeremenko

Troops of the Independent Maritime Army, developing their offensive, captured the city and Black Sea port of Yalta — one of the strongpoints of the enemy's defence on the southern coast of the Crimea.

In the fighting for the capture of Yalta, distinction was won by troops of Major-General Provalov, Major-General Luchinsky, Major-General Rozhdestvensky, Major-General Koldubov, Colonel Preobrazhenskyy; artillerymen of Major-General of Artillery Sokolsky and sappers of Major-General of Engineering Troops Pilipets.

To commemorate the victory, the formations and units which distinguished themselves most in the fighting for the liberation of Yalta shall be recommended for conferment of the title "Yalta" and for award of orders.

Today, 16 April, at 20 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, on behalf of the Motherland, salutes the valiant troops of the Independent Maritime Army that captured Yalta with twelve artillery salvoes from one hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I express my thanks to the troops under your command who participated in the fighting for the liberation of Yalta.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the fighting for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!

Death to the German invaders!

Supreme Commander-in-Chief

Marshal of the Soviet Union I. STALIN
