ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

Troops of the Leningrad Front yesterday, 10 June, went over to the offensive on the Karelian Isthmus north of the city of Leningrad, and supported by massed strikes of aircraft and artillery, broke through the heavily fortified, deeply echeloned permanent Finnish defences, and in two days of offensive fighting advanced up to 24 kilometres, widening the breakthrough to 40 kilometres along the front.

In the course of the offensive, the troops of the front captured the city and large railway station of Terijoki, the important enemy strongpoint of Yappilya, and seized more than 80 other populated places.

In the fighting to break through the enemy's defences, distinction was won by troops of Lieutenant-General Gusev, Lieutenant-General Simonyak, Lieutenant-General Alferov, Major-General Busarov, Major-General Shcheglov, Major-General Putilov, Major-General Yakushev, Major-General Yastrebov, Major-General Trushkin; artillerymen of Lieutenant-General of Artillery Odintsov, Lieutenant-General of Artillery Mikhalkin, Major-General of Coastal Service Arsenyev, Major-General of Artillery Zhdanov, Major-General of Artillery Vasilyev, Major-General of Artillery Solovyev, Colonel Ivanov, Colonel Korochkin; tankmen of Lieutenant-General of Tank Troops Baranov, Colonel Shpiller, Lieutenant-Colonel Krasnoshtan, Major Primachenko, Major Oleinikov; airmen of Lieutenant-General of Aviation Rybalchenko, Major-General of Aviation Andreyev, Major-General of Aviation Shcherbakov, Colonel Skok, Colonel Khatminsky, Colonel Greskov, and sappers of Major-General of Engineering Troops Bychevsky, Colonel Shubin, Colonel Ruy.

To commemorate the victory, the formations and units which distinguished themselves most in the fighting shall be recommended for conferment of the title "Leningrad" and for award of orders.

Today, 11 June, at 23 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, on behalf of the Motherland, salutes the valiant troops of the Leningrad Front that broke through the enemy's defences with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I express my thanks to the troops under your command who participated in the breakthrough of the Finnish defences.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the fighting for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
