ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

The troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front, having gone over to the offensive, supported by massed strikes of artillery and aviation, broke through the strong, deeply echeloned German defences in the Lvov direction and in three days of offensive fighting advanced to a depth of up to 50 kilometres, widening the breakthrough to 200 kilometres along the front.

In the course of the offensive, the troops of the front captured the towns of Poritsk, Gorokhov, Radziekhov, Brody, Zolochev, Busk, Kamenka, the town and large railway junction of Krasnoye, and more than 600 other populated places.

In the fighting during the breakthrough of the enemy's defences, distinction was earned by the troops of Colonel-General Gordov, Lieutenant-General Pukhov, Colonel-General Kurochkin, Colonel-General Moskalenko, Major-General Cherokmanov, Major-General Donskov, Lieutenant-General Glukhov, Major-General Bedin, Major-General Zakharov, Major-General Tertyshny, Major-General Gordeev; cavalrymen of Lieutenant-General Baranov, Major-General Mamsurov, Colonel Aristov, Colonel Borshchev; artillerymen of Colonel-General of Artillery Varentsov, Major-General of Artillery Kubeev, Major-General of Artillery Kabatchikov, Major-General of Artillery Dzevulsky, Major-General of Artillery Kofanov, Major-General of Artillery Volkenshteyn, Colonel Khusid, Major-General of Artillery Sanko; tankmen of Lieutenant-General of Tank Forces Novikov, Lieutenant-General of Tank Forces Poluboyarov, Major-General of Tank Forces Anikushkin, Major-General of Tank Forces Korolev, Major-General of Tank Forces Romanov, Colonel Sadovsky, Colonel Belyaev; airmen of Colonel-General of Aviation Krasovsky, Major-General of Aviation Galunov, Major-General of Aviation Arkhangelsky, Major-General of Aviation Golovnya, Major-General of Aviation Kamanin, Lieutenant-General of Aviation Naneishvili, Major-General of Aviation Utin, Lieutenant-General of Aviation Ryazanov, Lieutenant-General of Aviation Aladinsky, Major-General of Aviation Polbin, Major-General of Aviation Vitruk, Colonel Pokryshkin; sappers of Lieutenant-General of Engineer Forces Galitsky, Major-General of Engineer Forces Varvarkin, Major-General of Engineer Forces Gusev, Colonel Kontsevoy, Colonel Volodin; signallers of Lieutenant-General of Signal Forces Bulychev, Major-General of Signal Forces Akhremenko, Colonel Nesterov, Colonel Tarunin, Lieutenant-Colonel Simkhovich.

In commemoration of the victory won, the formations and units that have most distinguished themselves in the fighting during the breakthrough of the German defences are to be submitted for decoration with orders.

Today, 18 July, at 23 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front, who have broken through the German defences on the approaches to Lvov, with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For distinguished combat operations I declare my gratitude to the troops under your command who took part in the fighting during the breakthrough of the enemy's defences.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
