ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Marshal of the Soviet Union Govorov

The troops of the Leningrad Front, having gone over to the offensive in the area of Narva, broke through the strongly fortified, deeply echeloned enemy defences and, as a result of a skilful outflanking manoeuvre and frontal attack, today, 26 July, captured by storm the town and fortress of Narva — an important fortified area of the German defences covering the routes to Estonia.

In the fighting for the capture of the town of Narva, distinction was earned by the troops of Lieutenant-General Fedyuninsky, Lieutenant-General Starikov, Major-General Romanenko, Major-General Burakovsky, Major-General Trubachev, Major-General Batluk, Major-General Yakutovich, Major-General Koziev, Colonel Kozunenko; artillerymen of Major-General of Artillery Kazakov, Major-General of Artillery Pyadusov, Colonel Bagdasaryan, Colonel Shteyn, Colonel Bondarev, Colonel Gnidin, Colonel Aru, Lieutenant-Colonel Bogushev; tankmen of Major-General of Tank Forces Zazimko, Colonel Mironovich, Lieutenant-Colonel Barylov, Lieutenant-Colonel Kuzin; airmen of Lieutenant-General of Aviation Rybalchenko, Major-General of Aviation Andreev, Major-General of Aviation Shcherbakov, Colonel Matveyev, Colonel Khatminsky, Colonel Greskov, Colonel Kurochkin; sappers of Colonel Tsvanger, Lieutenant-Colonel Vasilkov, Major Fomenko, Lieutenant-Colonel Afanasyev, Captain Voronov; signallers of Colonel Bakhilin, Lieutenant-Colonel Ponomarenko, Lieutenant-Colonel Shubin.

In commemoration of the victory won, the formations and units that have most distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the town and fortress of Narva are to be submitted for the conferral of the designation "Narva" and for decoration with orders.

Today, 26 July, at 22 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the Leningrad Front, who have captured the town of Narva, with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For distinguished combat operations I declare my gratitude to the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of the town of Narva.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
