ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

The troops of the 1st Byelorussian Front, as a result of a swift attack by tank formations and infantry, captured by storm the town and fortress of Demblin (Ivangorod)32 — a large railway junction and powerful strongpoint of the German defences on the River Vistula.

In the fighting for the capture of the town of Demblin, distinction was earned by the troops of Colonel-General Chuikov, Lieutenant-General Glazunov, Major-General Shemenkov; tankmen of Major-General Radzieyevsky, Major-General of Tank Forces Dubovoy, Major-General of Tank Forces Vedeneev, Colonel Abramov, Colonel Kopylov, Colonel Stukov, Colonel Mirvoda, Colonel Potapov, Colonel Liberman, Colonel Krevs, Lieutenant-Colonel Makarov, Lieutenant-Colonel Cheryapkin, Major Gurenko, Major Berdnikov, Major Budarin, Major Gorbatenko, Captain Sterlikov, Captain Yefremov; artillerymen of Colonel Kagan, Colonel Peshchakov, Major Shlychkov, Major Mazanov, Major Moiseyenko, Major Mytsik; airmen of Lieutenant-General of Aviation Polynin, Colonel Mironov, Colonel Timofeyev, Colonel Grashchenko, Colonel Sukhoryabov, Lieutenant-Colonel Gavrilchenko, Major Fadin; sappers of Lieutenant-Colonel Levin, Major Chistyakov, Major Boyko, Captain Pyatchin; signallers of Colonel Belenko, [Colonel] Ignatyev, Major Ulyanenkov, Captain Mikhtunts.

In commemoration of the victory won, the formations and units that have most distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the town and fortress of Demblin are to be submitted for the conferral of the designation "Demblin" and for decoration with orders.

Today, 26 July, at 23 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 1st Byelorussian Front, who have captured the town of Demblin, with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For distinguished combat operations I declare my gratitude to the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of the town of Demblin.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
