ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

The troops of the 1st Byelorussian Front, as a result of a skilful enveloping manoeuvre and frontal attack, today, 28 July, captured the regional centre of Byelorussia, the city and fortress of Brest (Brest-Litovsk) — an operationally important railway junction and powerful fortified defensive area on the Warsaw axis.

In the fighting for the capture of the city of Brest, distinction was won by the troops of Colonel-General Popov, Colonel-General Belov, Lieutenant-General Luchinsky, Lieutenant-General Khalyuzin, Lieutenant-General Ryabyshev, Lieutenant-General Chanyshev, Major-General Shvarev, Major-General Batitsky, Major-General Korchikov, Major-General Turchinsky, Major-General Timofeev, Major-General Solovyev, Major-General Kirsanov, Major-General Revunenkov, Colonel Shatskov, Colonel Sychev, Colonel Malkov, Colonel Kuchinev, Colonel Moshchalkov, Colonel Mulov, Colonel Nesterenko; Kuban cavalrymen of Lieutenant-General Pliev, Major-General Tutarinov, Major-General Golovsky; artillerymen of Colonel-General of Artillery Kazakov, Major-General of Artillery Yegorov, Major-General of Artillery Petropavlovsky, Major-General of Artillery Dmitriev, Colonel Sergeyev, Colonel Kirillov, Colonel Pukhov, Colonel Papp, Colonel Vakhromeyev, Colonel Kolokolov, Colonel Barmotin, Colonel Ponomarenko, Colonel Korchagin, Colonel Petrov; tankmen of Lieutenant-General of Tank Troops Krivoshein, Major-General of Tank Troops Voyeikov, Colonel Kulikov, Lieutenant-Colonel Parfenov, Lieutenant-Colonel Simonov; airmen of Colonel-General of Aviation Rudenko, Lieutenant-General of Aviation Loginov, Lieutenant-General of Aviation Georgiev, Major-General of Aviation Dzusov, Major-General of Aviation Komarov, Major-General of Aviation Volkov, Major-General of Aviation Schetchikov, Colonel Tatanashvili, Colonel Rybakov, Colonel Vinogradov; sappers of Colonel-General of Engineering Troops Proshlyakov, Major-General of Engineering Troops Zhirov, Major-General of Engineering Troops Vitvinin, Major-General of Engineering Troops Ioffe, Colonel Afanasyev, Colonel Pavshuk, Colonel Voronov, Colonel Dobychin, Colonel Antonov; signallers of Colonel Plotkin, Colonel Chekhov, Colonel Kaltukhov, Colonel Stupachenko, Colonel Kalchits.

To commemorate the victory won, the formations and units which have distinguished themselves most in the fighting for the capture of the city of Brest will be recommended for conferment of the honorary designation "Brest" and for award of orders.

Today, 28 July, at 23.00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland, will salute the valiant troops of the 1st Byelorussian Front which have captured the city of Brest with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent military operations I express my thanks to the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of the city of Brest.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the struggle for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
