ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Colonel-General Petrov

The troops of the 4th Ukrainian Front, developing their successful offensive, today, 6 August, took by storm the major industrial centre and regional city of Ukraine, Drohobych — an important communications junction and enemy defensive strongpoint covering the approaches to the passes through the Carpathians.

In the fighting for the capture of the city of Drohobych, distinction was won by the troops of Colonel-General Grechko, Major-General Gordeyev, Major-General Lazko, Colonel Dryakhlov, Colonel Grinchenko, Colonel Pakhomov, Colonel Ivanchura; artillerymen of Major-General of Artillery Brichenko, Colonel Brozgol, Major-General Zhiburkus, Colonel Urmanov, Colonel Novikov; tankmen of Major-General of Tank Troops Raikin, Lieutenant-Colonel Strelets; airmen of Major-General of Aviation Samokhin, Lieutenant-General of Aviation Naneyshvili, Colonel Kotelnikov; sappers of Major-General of Engineering Troops Tupichev, Colonel Astapov, Major Voronov, Major Markaryan, Major Shishov; signallers of Colonel Belyanchik, Lieutenant-Colonel Yemtsev, Lieutenant-Colonel Mishin.

To commemorate the victory won, the formations and units which have distinguished themselves most in the fighting for the capture of the city of Drohobych will be recommended for conferment of the honorary designation "Drohobych" and for award of orders.

Today, 6 August, at 22.00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland, will salute the valiant troops of the 4th Ukrainian Front which have captured the city of Drohobych with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent military operations I express my thanks to the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of the city of Drohobych.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the struggle for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
