ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Marshal of the Soviet Union Konev

The troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front, as a result of stubborn fighting, today, 7 August, captured the city and major railway junction of Sambor — an important German defensive strongpoint in the foothills of the Carpathians.

In the fighting for the capture of the city of Sambor, distinction was won by the troops of Colonel-General Moskalenko, Major-General Bushev, Colonel Vasilyev, Lieutenant-Colonel Sipun, Colonel Galtsev, Colonel Andriyenko, Colonel Dotsenko; artillerymen of Major-General of Artillery Likhachev, Major-General of Artillery Sanko, Major-General of Artillery Kolesov, Colonel Dobrinsky; tankmen of Colonel Belyayev; airmen of Colonel Bystrov, Colonel Yuzeyev; sappers of Major-General of Engineering Troops Varvarkin; signallers of Colonel Tarunin.

To commemorate the victory won, the formations and units which have distinguished themselves most in the fighting for the capture of the city of Sambor will be recommended for conferment of the honorary designation "Sambor" and for award of orders.

Today, 7 August, at 21.00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland, will salute the valiant troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front which have captured the city of Sambor with twelve artillery salvoes from one hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent military operations I express my thanks to the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of the city of Sambor.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the struggle for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
