ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Marshal of the Soviet Union Konev

The troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front, developing their offensive, today, August 23, captured by storm the town of Dębica — a large centre of the aviation industry and an important communications junction in the Cracow direction.

The following distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the town of Dębica: the troops of Lieutenant General Zhadov, Colonel General Kurochkin, Lieutenant General Lebedenko, Major General Ozimin, Major General Tertyshniy, Major General Pichugin, Major General Motov, Major General Metalnikov, Major General Zubov, Major General Mishchenko, Colonel Skryganov, Colonel Kucherenko, Colonel Petrenko, Colonel Grinvald-Mukho; the artillerymen of Colonel General of Artillery Varentsov, Major General of Artillery Poluyektov, Major General of Artillery Kabatchikov; the tankmen of Colonel General of Armoured Forces Novikov, Major General of Armoured Forces Chuprygin, Major General of Armoured Forces Romanov, Lieutenant General of Armoured Forces Poluboyarov; the airmen of Colonel General of Aviation Krasovsky, Major General of Aviation Kamanin, Major General of Aviation Galunov, Major General of Aviation Arkhangelsky, Colonel Yuzeyev; the sappers of Lieutenant General of Engineering Troops Galitsky, Colonel Podolynny, Colonel Kontsevoy; the signallers of Colonel Nesterov, Colonel Bogomolov.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units which most distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the town of Dębica are to be recommended for conferment of the designation "Dębica" and for award of orders.

Today, August 23, at 24:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front which captured the town of Dębica with twelve artillery salvoes from one hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent military operations I express my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of Dębica.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the struggle for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
