ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Army General Malinovsky

The troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, as a result of a swift blow by armoured formations and infantry, today, August 23, captured the town of Vaslui — an important communications junction and strong strongpoint of the enemy defences between the Rivers Siret and Prut.

The following distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the town of Vaslui: the tankmen of Lieutenant General of Armoured Forces Kravchenko, Lieutenant General of Armoured Forces Volkov, Lieutenant General of Armoured Forces Alekseyev, Colonel Shutov, Lieutenant Colonel Kovalev, Lieutenant Colonel Pavlovsky, Colonel Osadchy; the troops of Lieutenant General Trofimenko, Lieutenant General Petrushevsky, Lieutenant General Goryachev, Major General Kindyukhin, Colonel Puteyko; the artillerymen of Major General of Artillery Gusev; the airmen of Major General of Aviation Vitruk, Major Rassmotrov, Major Voytekayites, Major Vasilin, Major Musatov.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units which most distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the town of Vaslui are to be recommended for award of orders.

Today, August 23, at 22:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front which captured the town of Vaslui with twelve artillery salvoes from one hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent military operations I express my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of Vaslui.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the struggle for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
