ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

The troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, with the resolute assistance of the troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, as a result of a skilful outflanking manoeuvre and a frontal attack, today, August 24, captured by storm the capital of the Moldavian SSR, the city of Kishinev — an important communications junction and powerful strongpoint of the enemy defences.

The following distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the city of Kishinev: the troops of Lieutenant General Berzarin, Lieutenant General Galanin, Lieutenant General Koroteyev, Major General Firsov, Major General Zherebin, Major General Latyshev, Major General Biryukov, Major General Seryugin, Colonel Shostotsky, Major General Sokolov, Major General Syzranov, Colonel Fomichenko, Major General Fedorovsky, Colonel Khilchevsky, Colonel Frolov, Colonel Afonin, Major General Tsvetkov, Colonel Chizhov, Major General Bunyashin; the artillerymen of Major General of Artillery Kosenko, Major General of Artillery Tsikalo, Colonel Pavlov, Colonel Sokolov, Lieutenant Colonel Klimenkov; the tankmen of Major General of Armoured Forces Polozkov, Colonel Anisimov, Colonel Tyaglov, Colonel Andreyev; the airmen of Colonel General of Aviation Sudets, Colonel General of Aviation Goryunov; the sappers of Colonel Fursa, Colonel Malov, Colonel Chevychelov; the signallers of Colonel Falin, Lieutenant Colonel Sukhikh.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units which most distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the city of Kishinev are to be recommended for conferment of the designation "Kishinev" and for award of orders.

Today, August 24, at 22:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 3rd and 2nd Ukrainian Fronts which captured the city of Kishinev with twenty-four artillery salvoes from three hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent military operations I express my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of Kishinev.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the struggle for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
