ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Army General Malinovsky

The troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, as a result of a swift offensive by armoured formations, cavalry, and infantry, routed the enemy grouping south of Iasi and today, August 24, captured the towns of Roman, Bacău, Bârlad, and Huși — strategically important strongpoints of the enemy defences covering the roads to the central districts of Romania.

The following distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the towns of Roman, Bacău, Bârlad, and Huși: the tankmen of Colonel General of Armoured Forces Kurkin, Lieutenant General of Armoured Forces Kravchenko, Lieutenant General of Armoured Forces Alekseyev, Major General of Armoured Forces Akhmanov, Colonel Lyskin, Colonel Beznoschenko, Colonel Shtanko, Colonel Shutov, Colonel Osadchy, Colonel Reshetnikov, Colonel Chunikhin, Colonel Khvatov, Lieutenant Colonel Ivliyev, Lieutenant Colonel Kovalev, Lieutenant Colonel Pavlovsky, [Colonel] Indeykin, Colonel Obdalenkov, Colonel Ostapenko, Lieutenant Colonel Antonov, Lieutenant Colonel Titarenko, Major Romanenko, Major Popov; the Don Cossack cavalrymen of Major General Gorshkov, Major General Slanov, Major General Grigorovich, Major General Krutovskikh; the troops of Colonel General Shumilov, Lieutenant General Trofimenko, Lieutenant General Koroteyev, Major General Fomenko, Major General Martirosyan, Major General Avdeyenko, Major General Safiulin, Lieutenant General Goryachev, Major General Dzhakhua, Major General Losev, Major General Smirnov, Major General Morozov, Major General Lilenkov, Major General Kindyukhin, Colonel Mopshyak, Colonel Puteyko, Colonel Perepelitsa, Colonel Obushenko, Colonel Vasilevsky, Colonel Konev; the artillerymen of Colonel General of Artillery Fomin, Major General of Artillery Shmakov, Major General of Artillery Petrov, Major General of Artillery Gusev, Major General of Artillery Lebedyev, Colonel Sinitsyn, Colonel Novgorodsky; the airmen of Colonel General of Aviation Goryunov; the sappers of Major General of Engineering Troops Tsirlin, Major General of Engineering Troops Plyaskin, Colonel Nasonov, Colonel Fadeyev, Lieutenant Colonel Golukovich, Lieutenant Colonel Korzhov; the signallers of Colonel Borisenko, Colonel Drobot, Lieutenant Colonel Streletsky.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units which most distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the towns of Roman, Bacău, Bârlad, and Huși are to be recommended for award of orders.

Today, August 24, at 23:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front which captured the towns of Roman, Bacău, Bârlad, and Huși with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent military operations I express my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of [the towns of] Roman, Bacău, Bârlad, and Huși.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the struggle for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
