ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

The troops of the 3rd Baltic Front, continuing their offensive, today, August 25, captured by storm the town and large communications junction of Tartu (Yuryev-Derpt) — an important strongpoint of the German defences covering the roads to the central districts of Estonia.

The following distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the town of Tartu: the troops of Lieutenant General Romanovsky, Lieutenant General Zakhvatayev, Major General Abakumov, Major General Martynchuk, Major General Fetisov, Major General Stepasnenko, Major General Kolchanov, Colonel Shiryayev, Major General Potapov, Major General Karapetyan, Colonel Demidov, Colonel Nikanorov, Colonel Dolgov, Colonel Fomichev, Major General Burakovsky, Major General Borisov, Colonel Bezperstov; the artillerymen of Colonel General of Artillery Krasnopevtsev, Colonel Leonov, Colonel Fastritsky, Colonel Shatilov, Colonel Volkov, Colonel Didenko, Colonel Chernev, Lieutenant Colonel Voronkov, Colonel Kamorny; the tankmen of Major General of Armoured Forces Kolosov, Colonel Ivanovich, Lieutenant Colonel Morgulis, Lieutenant Colonel Sokolov, Major Salkov, Major Gorbunov; the airmen of Lieutenant General of Aviation Zhuravlev, Lieutenant General of Aviation Filin, Lieutenant Colonel Podmogily, Lieutenant Colonel Dodonov, [Colonel] Polushko, Colonel Andreyev, [Lieutenant Colonel] Kulish, Major Yakovlev, Lieutenant Colonel Zolochevsky; the sappers of Major General of Engineering Troops Kirchevsky, Major General of Engineering Troops Chepurov, Colonel Marchak, Lieutenant Colonel Sobolev, Lieutenant Colonel Skorokhod, Lieutenant Colonel Anglichanov, Major Korchagin; the signallers of Major General of Signal Troops Sinelnikov, [Colonel] Korplyakov, Major Porter, Lieutenant Colonel Drobkis, Major of State Security Kosobokov, Colonel Semyonov.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units which most distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the town of Tartu are to be recommended for conferment of the designation "Tartu" and for award of orders.

Today, August 25, at 22:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 3rd Baltic Front which captured the town of Tartu with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent military operations I express my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of Tartu.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the struggle for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
