ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

The troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front today, August 27, captured the town of Galați — a large railway junction and the most important port on the Danube.

The following distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the town of Galați: the troops of Lieutenant General Shlemin, Major General Bobruk, Colonel Maksimovich, Colonel Parfenov, Senior Lieutenant Prokhorkin; the tankmen of Lieutenant General of Armoured Forces Sukhoruchkin, Colonel Rumyantsev, Lieutenant Colonel Gayevsky, Lieutenant Colonel Belov, Lieutenant Colonel Shvets; the artillerymen of Colonel General of Artillery Nedelin, Major General of Artillery Alekseyenko, Colonel Slepakov, Colonel Voloshin; the airmen of Colonel General of Aviation Sudets, Major General of Aviation Belitsky, Colonel Smirnov, Colonel Ivanov, Lieutenant Colonel Malov; the sappers of Colonel General of Engineering Troops Kotlyar, Major General of Engineering Troops Ignatov; the signallers of Lieutenant General of Signal Troops Korolev, Colonel Yegorov.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units which most distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the town of Galați are to be recommended for conferment of the designation "Galați" and for award of orders.

Today, August 27, at 23:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front which captured the town of Galați with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent military operations I express my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the capture of the town of Galați.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the struggle for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
