ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Army General Tolbukhin

The troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front today, August 28, captured the town of Brăila — a large river port and important strongpoint of the German invaders' defences on the Danube.

The following distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the town and port of Brăila: the troops of Lieutenant General Shlemin, Major General Bobruk, Colonel Parfenov, Colonel Maksimovich; the artillerymen of Major General of Artillery Alekseyenko, Colonel Slepakov; the tankmen of Lieutenant General of Armoured Forces Sukhoruchkin, Lieutenant Colonel Belov; the airmen of Colonel General of Aviation Sudets, Major General of Aviation Belitsky, Colonel Smirnov, Colonel Ivanov; the sappers of Major General of Engineering Troops Ignatov; the signallers of Colonel Yegorov.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units which most distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the town of Brăila are to be recommended for conferment of the designation "Brăila" and for award of orders.

Today, August 28, at 22:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front which captured the town of Brăila with twelve artillery salvoes from one hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent military operations I express my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of the town of Brăila.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the struggle for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
