ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Army General Malinovsky

The troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, continuing their offensive, today, August 30, captured in battle the town and principal centre of Romania's oil industry — Ploiești.

Thus, with the capture of Buzău and Ploiești, the liberation of all the oil-producing regions of Romania from the German invaders has been completed.

The following distinguished themselves in the fighting for the liberation of Ploiești: the troops of Lieutenant General Trofimenko, Lieutenant General Petrushevsky, Lieutenant General Goryachev, Major General Zolotukhin, Colonel Karlov, Colonel Konev; the artillerymen of Major General of Artillery Lebedyev, Major General of Artillery Gusev, Colonel Chernov; the tankmen of Colonel General of Armoured Forces Kurkin, Lieutenant General of Armoured Forces Kravchenko, Major General of Armoured Forces Savelyev, Colonel Shutov, Lieutenant Colonel Kovalev, Lieutenant Colonel Pavlovsky, Colonel Osadchy; the airmen of Colonel General of Aviation Goryunov, Major General of Aviation Vitruk; the sappers of Major General of Engineering Troops Tsirlin, Colonel Fadeyev, Colonel Ponimash, Lieutenant Colonel Golukovich, Colonel Myasnikov, Lieutenant Colonel Korzhov, Colonel Kovalenko; the signallers of Colonel Agafonov, Colonel Shervud.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units which most distinguished themselves in the fighting for the liberation of Ploiești are to be recommended for conferment of the designation "Ploiești" and for award of orders.

Today, August 30, at 22:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front which liberated Ploiești with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent military operations I express my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of Ploiești.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the struggle for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
