ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

The troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, as a result of a swift offensive, routed the grouping of German troops in the area of Ploiești and south of Ploiești and today, August 31, entered the city of Bucharest, thereby eliminating the German threat to the capital of Romania from the north.

The following distinguished themselves in the fighting against the German invaders on the approaches to Bucharest: the troops of Lieutenant General Managarov, Major General Terentyev, Major General Akimenko, Major General Ostashenko, Major General Karpukhin, Colonel Sidorenko, Major General Ogorodov, Colonel Sobolev, Major General Travnikov, Colonel Gizatulin, Major General Zdanovich, Colonel Tkachev, Colonel Yesin, Colonel Voloshin; the artillerymen of Colonel General of Artillery Fomin, Major General of Artillery Gusev, Colonel Zykov; the tankmen of Colonel General of Armoured Forces Kurkin, Lieutenant General of Armoured Forces Kravchenko, Lieutenant General of Armoured Forces Volkov, Colonel Kolesnikov, Colonel Mironov, Colonel Selyoznev, Lieutenant Colonel Ovcharov, Lieutenant Colonel Mikhno, Colonel Reshetnikov, Colonel Chunikhin, [Colonel] Indeykin, Colonel Khvatov, Lieutenant Colonel Belov; the airmen of Colonel General of Aviation Goryunov, Lieutenant General of Aviation Stepichev, Major General of Aviation Podgorny, Major General of Aviation Vitruk; the sappers of Major General of Engineering Troops Tsirlin, Colonel Fadeyev, Colonel Bogdanov, Colonel Isayev, Lieutenant Colonel Golukovich, Colonel Myasnikov, Lieutenant Colonel Korzhov; the signallers of Lieutenant General of Signal Troops Leonov, Colonel Shervud, Colonel Makarenko.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units which most distinguished themselves in the fighting against the German invaders on the approaches to Bucharest are to be recommended for conferment of the designation "Bucharest" and for award of orders.

Today, August 31, at 22:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front which routed the German grouping on the approaches to Bucharest and ensured the security of the capital of Romania with twenty-four artillery salvoes from three hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent military operations I express my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting against the German invaders on the approaches to Bucharest.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the struggle for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
