ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Army General Zakharov

The troops of the 2nd Byelorussian Front today, September 6, captured by storm the town and fortress of Ostrołęka — an important strongpoint of the German defences on the Narew River.

The following distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the town and fortress of Ostrołęka: the troops of Colonel General Gorbatov, Lieutenant General Grishin, Major General Chuvakov, Major General Urbanovich, Major General Terentyev, Major General Kuznetsov, Colonel Avilov, Major General Kubasov, Colonel Grekov, Major General Slits, Colonel Verevkin, Colonel Konovalov, Major General Kirillov, Colonel Tarasov, Colonel Mikhalitsin, Major General Nikitin, Major General Gasparyan; the artillerymen of Lieutenant General of Artillery Sokolsky, Lieutenant General of Artillery Semyonov, Colonel Dergach, Colonel Mikhno, Colonel Malofeyev, Colonel Roshchin, Colonel Korytko; the tankmen of Colonel Oparin, Colonel Rasskazov, Colonel Dagilis, Lieutenant Colonel Zirka; the airmen of Colonel General of Aviation Vershinin, Major General of Aviation Getman, Lieutenant General of Aviation Osipenko, Colonel Smolovik, Lieutenant Colonel Kozachenko, Major Bershanskaya; the sappers of Major General of Engineering Troops Zhilin, Colonel Shitikov, Colonel Artsishevsky; the signallers of Major General of Signal Troops Mishin, Colonel Khilchenko, Captain Nyrkov, Captain Zaichko, Captain Borisov.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units which most distinguished themselves in the fighting for the capture of the town and fortress of Ostrołęka are to be recommended for conferment of the designation "Ostrołęka" and for award of orders.

Today, September 6, at 21:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 2nd Byelorussian Front which captured the town and fortress of Ostrołęka with twelve artillery salvoes from one hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent military operations I express my gratitude to all the troops under your command who took part in the fighting for the liberation of Ostrołęka.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the struggle for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
