ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

The troops of the 2nd Belorussian Front today, September 13, as a result of stubborn fighting, captured the town and fortress of Lomzha — an important strongpoint of the German defences on the Narew River.

In the battles for the capture of the town and fortress of Lomzha, distinction was won by the troops of Lieutenant-General Grishin, Major-General Smirnov, Major-General Terentyev, Major-General Kustov, Colonel Suprunov, Major-General Krasnoshtanov, Major-General Kirillov, Major-General Kronik, Colonel Tarasov, Major-General Slits; artillerymen of Lieutenant-General of Artillery Sokolsky, Major-General of Artillery Razintsev, Major-General of Artillery Degtyarev, Colonel Mikhno, Colonel Pankov, Colonel Kaminsky, Colonel Korolev, Colonel Rybkin, Colonel Ushakov, Colonel Tyurin, Colonel Nosyrev; tankmen of Colonel Rodionov, Lieutenant-Colonel Grdzhelishvili, Lieutenant-Colonel Rozhkov, Lieutenant-Colonel Shevchenko, Lieutenant-Colonel Povarov; airmen of Colonel-General of Aviation Vershinin, Major-General of Aviation Getman, Colonel Smolovik, Colonel Volkov, Colonel Vuss, Colonel Pokoevy, Lieutenant-Colonel Starovoitov, Major Shevtsov, Lieutenant-Colonel Kolomin, Major Arbatov, Lieutenant-Colonel Bautin, Lieutenant-Colonel Katrukh, Major Fedotov, Lieutenant-Colonel Bardeev, Lieutenant-Colonel Yeliseyev, Lieutenant-Colonel Sokolov; sappers of Colonel Tretyakov, Colonel Mirotvorsky, Major Bandos, Major Shepelev; signallers of Major-General of Signal Troops Borzov, Major-General of Signal Troops Novarchuk, Colonel Mikhailov, Lieutenant-Colonel Korbut.

To commemorate the victory achieved, the units and formations which particularly distinguished themselves in the battles for the capture of the town and fortress of Lomzha shall be recommended for conferment of the designation "Lomzha" and for the award of orders.

Today, September 13, at 21:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 2nd Belorussian Front who captured the town and fortress of Lomzha, with twelve artillery salvoes from one hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I express my thanks to the troops under your command who took part in the battles for the liberation of Lomzha.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
