ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

The troops of the Leningrad Front, going over to the offensive from the area north of Tartu, broke through the strongly fortified enemy defences, in four days of offensive fighting advanced up to 70 kilometres and widened the breakthrough to 120 kilometres along the front, liberating more than 1,500 populated places, including the large ones of Magdalena, Mustve, Jogeva, and Avinurme.

Simultaneously, west of the town of Narva, troops of the Leningrad Front, fighting for three days, advanced up to 60 kilometres and captured more than 300 populated places, among them Johvi, Kuremae-Kula, Vasknarva, and the railway junction of Sonda.

In the battles during the breakthrough of the enemy defences, distinction was won by the troops of Lieutenant-General Fedyuninsky, Lieutenant-General Starikov, the Estonian Corps of Lieutenant-General Parn, Lieutenant-General Simonyak, Lieutenant-General Polenov, Major-General Trubachev, Major-General Lombak, Colonel Allikas, Major-General Putilov, Major-General Shcheglov, Major-General Borshchev, Major-General Lyashchenko, Colonel Zinovyev; artillerymen of Colonel-General of Artillery Odintsov, Major-General of Artillery Vasilyev, Major-General of Artillery Kazakov, Major-General of Artillery Pochitalin, Major-General of Artillery Pyadusov, Major-General of Artillery Rogozin, Colonel Gnidin, Colonel Katunin, Lieutenant-Colonel Gerasimenko, Colonel Karpachev, Colonel Degtyarev, Colonel Lizyukov, Lieutenant-Colonel Tsvetkov, Colonel Potiforov, Colonel Shtein; tankmen of Lieutenant-General of Tank Troops Baranov, Colonel Mironovich, Colonel Kovalevsky, Major Oleynikov, Lieutenant-Colonel Fedorov, Lieutenant-Colonel Barylov, Lieutenant-Colonel Sayenko, Lieutenant-Colonel Parshev, Major Primachenko, Lieutenant-Colonel Kartashev, Major Kobozev, Lieutenant-Colonel Krasnik, Lieutenant-Colonel Chesnokov, Lieutenant-Colonel Gritsev, Major Kuznetsov; airmen of Lieutenant-General of Aviation Rybalchenko, Major-General of Aviation Andreyev, Colonel Khatminsky, Colonel Greskov, Colonel Matveyev, Major Mukhin, Major Mekhanikov; sappers of Lieutenant-General of Engineer Troops Bychevsky, Colonel Tsvanger, Lieutenant-Colonel Gulyanitsky, Lieutenant-Colonel Vorobyev, Colonel Akatov, Lieutenant-Colonel Afanasyev, Lieutenant-Colonel Gultyayev; signallers of Lieutenant-General of Signal Troops Kovalev, Colonel Bakhilin.

To commemorate the victory achieved, the units and formations which particularly distinguished themselves in the battles during the breakthrough of the enemy defences shall be recommended for the award of orders.

Today, September 20, at 22:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the Leningrad Front, including the Estonian Corps of Lieutenant-General Pern, who broke through the German defences, with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I express my thanks to the troops under your command who took part in the battles during the breakthrough of the enemy defences.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
