ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

The troops of the Leningrad Front, as a result of a swift offensive, today, September 22, captured by storm the capital of the Estonian SSR, the city of Tallinn (Reval) — an important naval base and large port on the Baltic Sea.

In the battles for the capture of the city of Tallinn, distinction was won by the troops of Lieutenant-General Starikov, Lieutenant-General Fedyuninsky, Major-General Trubachev, the Estonian Corps of Lieutenant-General Pern, Lieutenant-General Simonyak, Major-General Yastrebov, Colonel Zinovyev; artillerymen of Colonel-General of Artillery Odintsov, Major-General of Artillery Pochitalin, Major-General of Artillery Kazakov, Major-General of Artillery Koznov, Colonel Petrov, Colonel Aru, Colonel Tolkushev, Colonel Skorobogaty, Colonel Alferov, Lieutenant-Colonel Shulyayev, Lieutenant-Colonel Khrushch, Lieutenant-Colonel Popov; tankmen of Lieutenant-General of Tank Troops Baranov, Major-General of Tank Troops Zazimko, Colonel Kovalevsky, Lieutenant-Colonel Sayenko, Lieutenant-Colonel Kartashev, Major Chernykh, Major Kuznetsov, Lieutenant-Colonel Gritsev, Lieutenant-Colonel Kuzin, Lieutenant-Colonel Kuslapu, Lieutenant-Colonel Chesnokov; airmen of Lieutenant-General of Aviation Rybalchenko, Lieutenant-General of Aviation Samokhin, Major-General of Aviation Andreyev, Major-General of Aviation Antonov, Colonel Matveyev, Colonel Khatminsky, Colonel Greskov, Colonel Kurochkin, Colonel Manzhosov, Colonel Chelnokov, Major Mekhanikov; sappers of Lieutenant-General of Engineer Troops Bychevsky, Colonel Akatov, Lieutenant-Colonel Afanasyev, Major Chirtsov, Major Fomenko, Major Voronov; signallers of Lieutenant-General of Signal Troops Kovalev, Colonel Muzhev.

To commemorate the victory achieved, the units and formations which particularly distinguished themselves in the battles for the capture of the city of Tallinn shall be recommended for conferment of the designation "Tallinn" and for the award of orders.

Today, September 22, at 23:30 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the Leningrad Front, including the Estonian Corps of Lieutenant-General Pern, who captured the capital of Soviet Estonia, the city of Tallinn, with twenty-four artillery salvoes from three hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I express my thanks to the troops under your command who took part in the battles for the liberation of the city of Tallinn.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
