ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Marshal of the Soviet Union Govorov

The troops of the Leningrad Front, developing their offensive, today, September 23, captured the city of Parnu (Pernov) — an important port on the Gulf of Riga.

In the battles for the capture of the city of Parnu, distinction was won by the troops of Lieutenant-General Fedyuninsky, Lieutenant-General Polenov, Major-General Lyashchenko, Major-General Borshchev; artillerymen of Colonel-General of Artillery Odintsov, Major-General of Artillery Kazakov, Colonel Voronich, Colonel Novozhllov, Lieutenant-Colonel Balsin, Major Nagorsky; tankmen of Lieutenant-General of Tank Troops Baranov, Colonel Protsenko, Lieutenant-Colonel Lomov, Lieutenant-Colonel Medvedev; airmen of Lieutenant-General of Aviation Rybalchenko, Lieutenant-General of Aviation Samokhin, Major-General of Aviation Andreyev, Colonel Matveyev, Colonel Khatminsky, Colonel Greskov, Major Mekhanikov; sappers of Lieutenant-General of Engineer Troops Bychevsky, Colonel Tsvanger, Major Anshchenko, Major Shestakov, Major Zhgun, Captain Abdulov; signallers of Lieutenant-General of Signal Troops Kovalev, Colonel Bakhilin, Colonel Golev.

To commemorate the victory achieved, the units and formations which particularly distinguished themselves in the battles for the capture of the city of Parnu (Pernov) shall be recommended for conferment of the designation "Pernov" and for the award of orders.

Today, September 23, at 23:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the Leningrad Front who captured the city of Parnu, with twelve artillery salvoes from one hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I express my thanks to the troops under your command who took part in the battles for the liberation of the city of Parnu.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the Freedom and independence of our Motherland!
