ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

The troops of the 1st Baltic Front, with the support of the troops of the 3rd Belorussian Front, going over to the offensive from the area north-west and south-west of Shauliai (Shavli), broke through the heavily fortified enemy defences and in four days of offensive fighting advanced up to 100 kilometres, widening the breakthrough to 280 kilometres along the front.

In the course of the offensive, the troops of the Front captured the important German strongpoints Telshai, Plungany, Mazeikiai, Trishkiai, Tirkshliai, Seda, Vorni, Kelmy, and also captured more than 2,000 other populated places in the fighting, among them Papile, Pievenai, Nevarenai, Nerimdaichai, Raudena, Kurshenai, Kurtoviany, Shavkyany, Vitsodzi, Lukniki, Yanopol, Zhorany, Medyngiany, Tvery, Povandeni, Yuzefov, Uzhventy, Koltynyany, Krozhi, Savdyniki, Iozefovo, Stulgi, Bargaili, Nemokshty, Retovo, Ilakiai, Dervyany, Kovnatovo, Zhemale, Veshviany, Leplavki, Eigirdzhiai, Elki, Erzvilki, Vodjgiry.

To commemorate the victory achieved, the units and formations which particularly distinguished themselves in the battles during the breakthrough of the enemy defences shall be recommended for the award of orders.

Today, October 8, at 22:30 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 1st Baltic Front who broke through the German defences, with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I express my thanks to the troops under your command who took part in the battles during the breakthrough of the enemy defences.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
