ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Marshal of the Soviet Union Malinovsky

The troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, developing their successful offensive, today, October 11, captured by storm the capital of Transylvania, the city of Cluj.

Simultaneously, the troops of the Front, having forced the River Tisza, captured the city of Szeged — a large economic, political, and administrative centre of Hungary.

In the battles for the capture of the cities of Cluj and Szeged, distinction was won by the troops of Colonel-General Trofimenko, Lieutenant-General Managarov, Lieutenant-General Shlemin, Lieutenant-General Goryachev, Lieutenant-General Petrushevsky, Major-General Kolchuk, Major-General Ostashenko, Major-General Karlov, Major-General Konev, Colonel Khokhlov, Colonel Gushchin, Colonel Kostrykin, Major-General Karamyshev, Major-General Zdanovich, Colonel Burik, Colonel Dunayev, Colonel Yesin, Colonel Parfenov, Colonel Kovtun-Stankevich; artillerymen of Colonel-General of Artillery Fomin, Major-General of Artillery Lebedev, Major-General of Artillery Alekseyenko, Major-General of Artillery Bobrovnikov, Major-General of Artillery Popovich, Colonel Zykov, Colonel Ivanov; tankmen of Colonel-General of Tank Troops Kurkin, Colonel Rumyantsev, Colonel Styzik, Colonel Brizhinev; airmen of Colonel-General of Aviation Goryunov, Lieutenant-General of Aviation Stepichev, Lieutenant-General of Aviation Podgorny, Major-General of Aviation Kamanin, Colonel Geibo, Colonel Blagoveshchensky; sappers of Lieutenant-General of Engineer Troops Tsirlin, Major-General of Engineer Troops Ignatov, Major-General of Engineer Troops Tyulev, Colonel Ponimash, Colonel Kalinichenko, Colonel Isayev, Colonel Nasonov, Colonel Pavlenko; signallers of Lieutenant-General of Signal Troops Leonov, Colonel Agafonov, Colonel Yegorov, Colonel Makarenko.

To commemorate the victory achieved, the units and formations which particularly distinguished themselves in the battles for the capture of the cities of Cluj and Szeged shall be recommended for conferment of the designations "Cluj" and "Szeged" and for the award of orders.

Today, October 11, at 22:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front who captured the cities of Cluj and Szeged, with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I express my thanks to the troops under your command who took part in the battles for the liberation of the cities of Cluj and Szeged.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
