ORDER

OF THE SUPREME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF

To Marshal of the Soviet Union Malinovsky

The troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front today, October 12, as a result of a skilful outflanking manoeuvre by cavalry and tank formations, captured the large administrative and economic centre of Transylvania, the city of Oradea Mare (Grosswardein) — an important communications junction and a powerful strongpoint of the enemy defences.

In the battles for the capture of the city of Oradea Mare, distinction was won by the Kuban Cossack cavalrymen of Lieutenant-General Pliyev, Major-General Golovsky, Colonel Reva, Colonel Demchuk; tankmen of Major-General of Tank Troops Katkov, Colonel Marshev, Colonel Zhukov, Colonel Kopiyenko; troops of Major-General Semyonov, Colonel Gorobets; artillerymen of Colonel Feldman, Colonel Tikhomirov, Colonel Marchenko; sappers of Lieutenant-Colonel Poletayev, Lieutenant-Colonel Kovalev, Major Gusov; signallers of Lieutenant-Colonel Chepelev, Lieutenant-Colonel Yatsenko, Colonel [of State Security] Karpov.

To commemorate the victory achieved, the units and formations which particularly distinguished themselves in the battles for the capture of the city of Oradea Mare shall be recommended for the award of orders.

Today, October 12, at 22:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, in the name of the Motherland salutes the valiant troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front who captured the city of Oradea Mare, with twelve artillery salvoes from one hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat operations I express my thanks to the troops under your command who took part in the battles for the liberation of the city of Oradea Mare.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
