The troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front today, October 22, as a result of a swift blow by cavalry and tank formations, captured the city of Nyiregyhaza — a major communications junction and important strongpoint of the enemy's defences on the territory of Hungary.

In the battles for the capture of the city of Nyiregyhaza, the following distinguished themselves: the Kuban and Don Cossack cavalrymen of Lieutenant-General Pliev, Lieutenant-General Gorshkov, Major-General Golovsky, Colonel Reva, Major-General Grigorovich; the tankmen of Colonel-General of Tank Forces Kurkin, Lieutenant-General of Tank Forces Akhmanov, Colonel Beznoshchenko, Colonel Shtanko, Lieutenant-Colonel Vorona, Lieutenant-Colonel Ivliev; the artillerymen of Colonel-General of Artillery Fomin, Colonel Marchenko, Colonel Novgorodsky; the airmen of Colonel-General of Aviation Goryunov, Colonel Yudakov, Colonel Geibo, Lieutenant-Colonel Shuteev, Colonel Devyatov, Lieutenant-Colonel Pyatakov, Major Popov; the sappers of Lieutenant-Colonel Kolosov, Major Khodarev, Major Gusov; the signal troops of Lieutenant-Colonel Streletsky, [Lieutenant-Colonel] Chepelev, Colonel of State Security Karpov.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units that most distinguished themselves in the battles for the capture of the city of Nyiregyhaza are to be submitted for decoration with orders.

Today, October 22, at 21:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland Moscow, in the name of the Motherland, salutes the valiant troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front who captured the city of Nyiregyhaza with twelve artillery salvoes from one hundred and twenty-four guns.

For the excellent combat operations I declare gratitude to the troops under your command who participated in the battles for the capture of the city of Nyiregyhaza.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
