The troops of the 4th Ukrainian Front, as a result of a swift offensive today, October 27, captured on the territory of the Czechoslovak Republic the chief city of Carpatho-Ukraine, Uzhgorod — a large communications junction and important strongpoint of the enemy's defences.

In the battles for the capture of Uzhgorod, the following distinguished themselves: the troops of Lieutenant-General Zhuravlyov, Major-General Afonin, Major-General Melnikov, Major-General Dremin, Major-General Podshivailov, Major-General Frolov, Major-General Fadeyev, Major-General Prokhorov, Colonel Chorny, Colonel Zherdienko, Colonel Peshkov, [Colonel] Akulov, Major Tarasov; the artillerymen of Lieutenant-General of Artillery Kariofilli, Major-General of Artillery Naydenko, Colonel Vorobyev, Colonel Novikov, Lieutenant-Colonel Bruk, Lieutenant-Colonel Yashin, Lieutenant-Colonel Nyukhalov, Lieutenant-Colonel Nazarov; the tankmen of Major-General of Tank Forces Solovyev, Colonel Morus, Lieutenant-Colonel Olkhovenko; the airmen of Lieutenant-General of Aviation Zhdanov, Colonel Chuk, Major Barulin, Major Shepelsky, Major Margoshin; the sappers of Major-General of Engineer Forces Kolesnikov, Colonel Bukharev, Lieutenant-Colonel Naumov; the signal troops of Lieutenant-General of Signal Forces Matveyev, Colonel Stepanyan, Major Korotky.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units that most distinguished themselves in the battles for the capture of Uzhgorod are to be submitted for the award of the title "Uzhgorod" and for decoration with orders.

Today, October 27, at 21:00 hours, the capital of our Motherland Moscow, in the name of the Motherland, salutes the valiant troops of the 4th Ukrainian Front who captured Uzhgorod with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For the excellent combat operations I declare gratitude to the troops under your command who participated in the battles for the liberation of Uzhgorod.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
