Troops of the 4th Ukrainian Front, with the assistance of troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, today, December 3, captured by storm the district center of Hungary, the city of Sátoraljaújhely – an important communications hub and strongpoint of the enemy's defense.

In the battles for the capture of the city of Sátoraljaújhely, the following troops distinguished themselves: Major General Gastilovich, Lieutenant General Zhmachenko, Lieutenant General Medvedev, Colonel Cherny, Colonel Ugryumov, Colonel Vinogradov, Colonel Vasilyev, Colonel Tetenko, Colonel Karnachev, Major Grigoryev, Major Narykov, Major Sotnikov, Major Shcherbakov; artillerymen Lieutenant General of Artillery Kariofilli, Major General of Artillery Naydenkov, Major General of Artillery Koretsky, Colonel Yakovlev, Colonel Bolbat, Colonel Nikitin, Lieutenant Colonel Kvyatkovsky, Lieutenant Colonel Greznev; tankmen Major General of Tank Troops Shirobokov, Colonel Morus, Major Frolov; pilots Lieutenant General of Aviation Zhdanov; sappers Major General of Engineering Troops Kolesnikov, Colonel Zhurin, Colonel Barash, Colonel Klyuchnikov, Lieutenant Colonel Naumov, Colonel Budarin, Engineer-Major Dmitriyev; signalmen Lieutenant General of Signal Troops Matveyev, Colonel Nekrasov, Lieutenant Colonel Shcherbakov.

To commemorate the victory achieved, the formations and units that most distinguished themselves in the battles for the capture of the city of Sátoraljaújhely are to be recommended for the awarding of orders.

Today, December 3, at 20:30, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, on behalf of the Motherland, salutes the valiant troops of the 4th and 2nd Ukrainian Fronts, who captured the city of Sátoraljaújhely, with twelve artillery salvos from one hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat actions, I express gratitude to the troops under your command who participated in the battles for the capture of the city of Sátoraljaújhely.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
