Troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, with the assistance of troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, encircled and routed a group of German forces attempting to retreat from Vienna to the north, and in so doing captured the cities of Korneuburg102 and Floridsdorf – powerful strongpoints of the German defenses on the left bank of the Danube.

During the fighting, the front's forces took more than 3,000 German soldiers and officers prisoner, and also captured a large amount of weapons and other military property.

In the battles during the rout of the encircled group of German forces and the capture of the aforementioned cities, the following troops distinguished themselves: those of Lieutenant-General Petrushevsky, Lieutenant-General Zakhvatayev, Major-General Birman, Major-General Derevyanko, Lieutenant-General Rubanyuk, Lieutenant-General Bakhtin, Major-General Biryukov, Major-General Margelov, Major-General Sokolovsky, Major-General Ivanov, Colonel Kovtun-Stankevich, Colonel Sagitov, Colonel Vasilevsky, Colonel Andryukov, Colonel Drychkin, Colonel Chizhov, Lieutenant-Colonel Dranishev, Lieutenant-Colonel Driga; ships and units of the Red Banner Danube Flotilla of Rear-Admiral Kholostyakov; artillerymen of Major-General of Artillery Alekseyenko, Major-General of Artillery Tsikalo, Major-General of Artillery Ratov, Major-General of Artillery Ivanov, Colonel Likhachev, Colonel Motov, Colonel Bulakhtin; tankmen of Lieutenant-General Sviridov, Colonel Rumyantsev, Lieutenant-Colonel Ivanov, Lieutenant-Colonel Malyshev, Colonel Safiulin, Colonel Ognev, Colonel Lyashchenko; airmen of Lieutenant-General of Aviation Stepichev, Lieutenant-General of Aviation Podgorny, Major-General of Aviation Kamanin; sappers of Colonel Zimin, Colonel Kalinichenko, Colonel Kovalenko; signalmen of Colonel Yegorov, Lieutenant-Colonel Sukhikh, Colonel of State Security Karpov.

In commemoration of the victory achieved, the formations and units that most distinguished themselves in the battles during the rout of the encircled group of German forces and for the capture of the cities of Korneuburg and Floridsdorf shall be recommended for the awarding of orders.

Today, April 15, at 22:30, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, on behalf of the Motherland, salutes the valiant troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, who routed the encircled group of German forces and captured the aforementioned cities, with twenty artillery salvos from two hundred twenty-four guns.

For excellent military actions, I express my gratitude to the troops led by you, who participated in the battles during the defeat of the encircled group of German forces and for the liberation of Korneuburg and Floridsdorf.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in battles for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
