Troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front, after two days of fighting, broke the enemy's resistance and today, 8 May, captured the city of Dresden – an important road junction and a powerful stronghold of the German defense in Saxony.

To commemorate the victory achieved, the formations and units that most distinguished themselves in the battles for the capture of the city of Dresden are to be recommended for the conferment of the designation “Dresden” and for the awarding of orders.

Today, May 8, at 21:00, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, on behalf of the Motherland, salutes the valiant troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front, who captured the city of Dresden, with twenty artillery salvoes from two hundred and twenty-four guns.

For excellent combat actions, I express gratitude to the troops under your command who participated in the battles for the capture of Dresden.

Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in battle for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
