I thank you for your friendly greeting and congratulations on the occasion of the victory over Japan, and in turn congratulate you on this victory. The war against Germany and Japan and our common goals in the struggle against the aggressors have brought the Soviet Union and the United Kingdom closer together and have strengthened our cooperation, the foundation of which for many years to come is now our Treaty of Alliance.

I express the confidence that this cooperation, tested in war and in wartime dangers, will develop and grow stronger in the postwar period as well, to the benefit of our peoples.
