The thunder of revolution is roaring! The revolutionary people of Russia have risen and have surrounded the tsarist government in order to storm it! Red flags are flying, barricades are being erected, the people are taking to arms and are storming government offices. Again the call of the brave is heard; life, which had subsided, is seething again. The ship of the revolution has hoisted sail and is speeding towards freedom. That ship is being steered by the Russian proletariat. What do the proletarians of Russia want? Whither are they steering?
Let us overthrow the tsarist Duma and set up a popular Constituent Assembly—this is what the proletarians of Russia are saying today. The proletariat will not demand petty concessions from the government, it will not call for the repeal of “martial law” and “floggings” in some towns and villages. The proletariat will not stoop to such trifles. Whoever demands concessions from the government does not believe that the government will perish—but the proletariat confidently believes that it will. Whoever expects “favours” from the government has no confidence in the might of the revolution —but the proletariat is inspired with this confidence.
No! The proletariat will not dissipate its energy in making senseless demands. It presents only one demand to the tsarist autocracy: Down with it! Death to it! And so, over the vast expanse of Russia the revolutionary cry of the workers rings out more and more boldly: Down with the State Duma! Long live a popular Constituent Assembly! This is the goal towards which the proletariat of Russia is striving today.
The tsar will not grant a popular Constituent Assembly, the tsar will not abolish his own autocracy—that he will not do! The curtailed “constitution” which he is “granting” is a temporary concession, the tsar’s hypocritical promise and nothing more! It goes without saying that we shall take advantage of this concession, we shall not refuse to wrest from the crow a nut with which to smash its head. But the fact remains that the people can place no trust in the tsar’s promises—they must trust only themselves; they must rely only on their own strength: the liberation of the people must be brought about by the people themselves. Only on the bones of the oppressors can the people’s freedom be erected, only with the blood of the oppressors can the soil be fertilised for the sovereignty of the people! Only when the armed people come out headed by the proletariat and raise the banner of a general uprising can the tsarist government, which rests on bayonets, be overthrown. Not empty phrases, not senseless “selfarming,” but real arming and an armed uprising— that is what the proletarians of the whole of Russia are steering towards today.
A victorious uprising will lead to the defeat of the government. But vanquished governments have often risen to their feet again. It may rise to its feet again in our country. On the morrow of the uprising, the dark forces which lay low during the uprising will creep out of their lairs and try to put the government on its feet again. That is how vanquished governments rise from the dead. The people must curb these dark forces without fail, they must make them bite the dust. But to do this the victorious people must, on the very morrow of the uprising, arm to a man, young and old, form themselves into a revolutionary army, and be ever ready to protect their hard-won rights by force of arms. Only when the victorious people have formed themselves into a revolutionary army will they be able finally to crush the dark forces which go into hiding. Only a revolutionary army can lend force to the actions of a provisional government, only a provisional government can convoke a popular Constituent Assembly which must establish a democratic republic. A revolutionary army and a revolutionary provisional government—this is the goal towards which the proletarians of Russia are striving today.
Such is the path that the Russian revolution has taken. This path leads to the sovereignty of the people, and the proletariat calls upon all the friends of the people to march along this path.
The tsarist autocracy is barring the road of the people’s revolution, it wants with the aid of the manifesto it issued yesterday to check this great movement—clearly, the waves of the revolution will engulf the tsarist autocracy and sweep it away. . . .
Contempt and hatred for all those who fail to take the path of the proletariat—they are despicably betraying the revolution! Shame upon those who, having taken this path in fact, say something else in words— they cravenly fear the truth!
We do not fear the truth, we do not fear revolution! Let the thunder roar still louder, let the storm rage more fiercely! The hour of victory is near!
Let us then enthusiastically proclaim the slogans of the proletariat of Russia:
Down With the State Duma!
Long Live the Armed Uprising!
Long Live the Revolutionary Army!
Long Live the Provisional Revolutionary Government! Long Live the Popular Constituent Assembly! Long Live the Democratic Republic!
Long Live the Proletariat!

Революция гремит! Поднялся революционный народ России и окружил царское
правительство, чтобы штурмовать его! Развеваются красные знамена, строятся
баррикады, народ берется за оружие и штурмует государственные учреждения. Вновь
раздался клич храбрых, вновь зазвучала затихшая жизнь. Корабль революции поднял
паруса и понесся к свободе. Этот корабль ведет российский пролетариат.
Чего хотят пролетарии России, куда они идут?
Свергнем царскую Думу и построим всенародное Учредительное собрание – вот что
говорят сегодня пролетарии России. Пролетариат не потребует от правительства
мелких уступок, он не потребует от него снятия “военного положения” и
“экзекуций” в некоторых городах и селах, – пролетариат не опустится до таких
мелочей. Кто требует от правительства уступок, тот не верит в смерть
правительства, – а пролетариат дышит этой верой. Кто ждет от правительства
“льгот”, тот не верит в мощь революции, – а пролетариат живет этой верой. Нет!
Пролетариат не распылит свою энергию на неразумные требования. К царскому
самодержавию у него только одно требование: долой его, смерть ему! И вот на
просторах России все смелее и смелее раздается революционный клич рабочих: Долой
Государственную думу! Да здравствует всенародное Учредительное собранием. Вот
куда стремится сегодня пролетариат России.
Царь не даст всенародного Учредительного собрания, царь не уничтожит своего же
самодержавия, – он этого не сделает! Куцая “конституция”, которую он “дает”, –
временная уступка, фарисейское обещание царя, и ничего больше! Разумеется, мы
воспользуемся этой уступкой, мы не откажемся выбить у вороны орех, чтобы этим
орехом разбить ей голову. Но факт все же остается фактом, что народ не может
полагаться на царское обещание, – он должен полагаться только на самого себя, он
должен опираться только на собственную силу: освобождение народа должно
совершиться руками самого народа. Только на костях угнетателей может быть
воздвигнута народная свобода, только кровью угнетателей может быть удобрена
почва для самодержавия народа! Только тогда, когда вооруженный народ выступит во
главе с пролетариатом и поднимет знамя всеобщего восстания, – только тогда может
быть свергнуто опирающееся на штыки царское правительство. Не пустые фразы, не
бессмысленное “самовооружение”, а действительное вооружение и вооруженное
восстание – вот куда идут сегодня пролетарии всей России.
Победоносное восстание приведет к поражению правительства. Но побежденные
правительства нередко вставали на ноги. И у нас оно может встать на ноги. Темные
силы, которые во время восстания прячутся по углам, – на другой же день
восстания вылезут из нор и захотят поставить на ноги правительство. Так
воскресают из мертвых побежденные правительства. Народ непременно должен
обуздать эти темные силы, он должен сравнять их с землей. А для этого
необходимо, чтобы победивший народ на другой же день восстания вооружился от
мала до велика, превратился в революционную армию и всегда был бы готов с
оружием в руках защищать завоеванные права.
Только тогда, когда победивший народ превратится в революционную армию, только
тогда будет он в состоянии окончательно разгромить притаившиеся темные силы.
Только революционная армия может придать силу действиям временного
правительства, только временное правительство сможет созвать всенародное
Учредительное собрание, которое должно установить демократическую республику.
Революционная армия и временное революционное правительство – вот куда стремятся
сегодня пролетарии России.
Таков тот путь, на который стала русская революция. Этот путь ведет к
самодержавию народа и пролетариат призывает всех друзей народа идти по этому
пути.
Царское самодержавие преграждает путь народной революции, оно хочет своим
вчерашним манифестом затормозить это великое движение, – ясно, что волны
революции поглотят и отбросят прочь царское самодержавие...
Презрение и ненависть всем тем, кто не станет на путь пролетариата, – они подло
изменяют революции! Позор тем, кто на деле став на этот путь, на словах говорит
иное, – тот малодушно боится правды!
Мы не боимся правды, мы не боимся революции! Пусть сильнее грянет гром, пусть
сильнее разразится буря! Час победы близок!
Так провозгласим же с воодушевлением лозунги российского пролетариата:
Долой Государственную думу!
Да здравствует вооруженное восстание!
Да здравствует революционная армия!
Да здравствует временное революционное правительство!
Да здравствует всенародное Учредительное собрание!
Да здравствует демократическая республика!
Да здравствует пролетариат!

¡Truena la revolución! ¡Se ha puesto en pie el pueblo revolucionario de Rusia y asedia al gobierno zarista, para lanzarse al asalto contra él! Flamean las banderas rojas, levántanse barricadas, el pueblo empuña las armas y asalta las instituciones estatales. De nuevo se oye el grito de combate de los valientes, de nuevo ha entrado en conmoción la vida que había vuelto a la tranquilidad. La nave de la revolución ha alzado velas y se dirige veloz hacia la libertad. El proletariado de Rusia la conduce. ¿Qué desean los proletarios de Rusia, a dónde van? Los proletarios de Rusia dicen hoy: derrocaremos la Duma zarista y crearemos la Asamblea Constituyente de todo el pueblo. El proletariado no exigirá del gobierno pequeñas concesiones, no exigirá de él que ponga término al “estado de guerra” y a las “flagelaciones públicas” en algunas ciudades y pueblos: el proletariado no descenderá a tales pequeñeces. Quien exige del gobierno concesiones, no cree en la muerte del gobierno, y en el proletariado alienta esta fe. Quien espera del gobierno “mercedes”, no cree en la potencia de la revolución, y el proletariado vive con esta fe. ¡No! El proletariado no dispersará sus energías en reivindicaciones insensatas. Frente a la autocracia zarista, el proletariado no tiene más que una reivindicación: ¡Abajo la autocracia, muera la autocracia! Y, efectivamente, en los ámbitos de Rusia resuena con audacia creciente el clamor revolucionario de los obreros: ¡Abajo la Duma de Estado! ¡Viva la Asamblea Constituyente de todo el pueblo! Esta es la aspiración actual del proletariado de Rusia. El zar no otorgará la Asamblea Constituyente de todo el pueblo, el zar no destruirá su propia autocracia: ¡no lo hará! ¡La amputada “Constitución” que “otorga” es una concesión temporal, una promesa farisaica y nada más! Naturalmente, nosotros nos aprovecharemos de esta concesión, no renunciaremos a arrancar al cuervo esta nuez para destrozarle con ella la cabeza. No obstante, sigue siendo un hecho que el pueblo no puede confiar en la promesa del zar; debe confiar únicamente en sí mismo, debe basarse únicamente en su propia fuerza: la liberación del pueblo debe ser obra del mismo pueblo. ¡Solamente sobre las cenizas de los opresores podrá erigirse la libertad popular, solamente con la sangre de los opresores podrá abonarse el terreno para el Poder soberano del pueblo! Sólo cuando el pueblo armado se alce con el proletariado a la cabeza y enarbole la bandera de la insurrección general, podrá ser derrocado el gobierno zarista, sostenido por las bayonetas. No frases vacías, no el absurdo “armarse por sus propios medios”, sino el armamento efectivo y la insurrección armada: hacia eso van hoy los proletarios de toda Rusia. La insurrección victoriosa conducirá a la derrota del gobierno. Pero más de una vez ha ocurrido que los gobiernos vencidos han vuelto a ponerse en pie. También en nuestro país el gobierno puede volver a ponerse en pie. Las fuerzas oscuras, que durante la insurrección se esconden por los rincones, saldrán de sus madrigueras al día siguiente de la insurrección y querrán poner en pie al gobierno. Así es como resucitan los gobiernos vencidos. ¡El pueblo debe ineludiblemente aplastar a estas fuerzas oscuras, debe destrozarlas! Y para ello es necesario que el pueblo victorioso, ya al día siguiente de la insurrección, se arme desde el pequeño al grande, se convierta en un ejército revolucionario y esté siempre pronto a defender con las armas en la mano los derechos conquistados. Sólo cuando el pueblo victorioso se convierta en un ejército revolucionario, estará en condiciones de aplastar definitivamente a las fuerzas oscuras emboscadas. Sólo un ejército revolucionario puede dar fuerza a los actos del gobierno provisional, sólo un gobierno provisional podrá convocar la Asamblea Constituyente de todo el pueblo, que debe implantar la república democrática, Ejército revolucionario y gobierno provisional revolucionario: éstas son hoy las aspiraciones de los proletarios de Rusia. Tal es el camino por el que ha entrado la revolución rusa. Este camino lleva al Poder soberano del pueblo, y el proletariado llama a todos los amigos del pueblo a seguir este camino. La autocracia zarista cierra el paso a la revolución popular; con su mensaje de ayer quiere frenar este grandioso movimiento: claro está que las olas de la revolución envolverán y arrojarán a la autocracia zarista... ¡Desprecio y odio a todos los que no sigan el camino del proletariado, porque traicionan vilmente la revolución! ¡Que la infamia cubra a los que, siguiendo de hecho este camino, de palabra dicen lo contrario, porque temen pusilánimes la verdad! ¡Nosotros no tememos la verdad, no tememos la revolución! ¡Qué retumbe con más fuerza el trueno, que se desencadene con más fuerza la tempestad! ¡La hora de la victoria está cercana! Proclamemos, pues, con entusiasmo las consignas
del proletariado de Rusia: ¡Abajo la Duma de Estado! ¡Viva la insurrección armada! ¡Viva el ejército revolucionario! ¡Viva el gobierno provisional revolucionario! ¡Viva la Asamblea Constituyente de todo el pueblo! ¡Viva la república democrática! ¡Viva el proletariado!
