It is nearly three years since the bourgeois vampires of the belligerent countries plunged the world into a bloody shambles.
For nearly three years now the workers of all countries, who were yesterday kin brothers and are now clad in soldier’s uniform, have stood confronting one another as enemies, and are crippling and murdering one another to the joy of the enemies of the proletariat. Wholesale slaughter of the man power of the nations, wholesale ruin and want, destruction of once flourishing towns and villages, wholesale starvation and lapse into savagery, all in order that a handful of crowned and uncrowned robbers may pillage foreign lands and rake in untold millions—this is where the war is tending.
The world has begun to stifle in the grip of war. . . . The peoples of Europe can bear it no longer, and are already rising up against the bellicose bourgeoisie. The Russian revolution is the first to be forcing a breach in the wall that divides the workers from one another. The Russian workers, at this time of universal “patriotic” frenzy, are the first to proclaim the forgotten slogan: “Workers of all countries, unite!”
Amidst the thunder of the Russian revolution, the workers of the West too are rising from their slumber. The strikes and demonstrations in Germany, the demonstrations in Austria and Bulgaria, the strikes and meetings in neutral countries, the growing unrest in Britain and France, the mass fraternization on the battle fronts—these are the first harbingers of the socialist revolution that is brewing.
And this holiday we are celebrating today, this May Day, is it not a sign that in the welter of blood new ties of fraternity among the peoples are being forged? The soil is burning underneath the feet of the capitalist robbers, for the Red Flag of the International is again waving over Europe.
Let, then, this First of May, when hundreds of thousands of Petrograd workers extend the hand of fraternity to the workers of the world, be an earnest of the birth of a new revolutionary International!
Let the slogan which resounds today in the squares of Petrograd—“Workers of all countries, unite!”—reverberate through the world and unite the workers of all countries in the fight for socialism!
Over the heads of the capitalist robbers, over the heads of their predatory governments, we extend a hand to the workers of all countries, and cry:
Hail the First of May!
Hail the Brotherhood of Nations!
Hail the Socialist Revolution!

Третий год проходит с тех пор, как хищническая буржуазия воюющих стран втянула мир в кровавую бойню.
Третий год проходит с тех пор, как рабочие всех стран, вчера еще кровные братья,
а ныне переодетые в солдатские шинели, стоят друг против друга, как враги,
калеча и убивая друг друга – на радость врагам пролетариата.
Массовое истребление живых сил народов, массовое разорение и нищета, развалины
когда-то цветущих городов и деревень, массовый голод и одичание, – все это для
того, чтобы кучка коронованных и некоронованных хищников грабила чужие земли и
загребала бешеные миллионы, – вот куда ведет нынешняя война. И мир стал
задыхаться в тисках войны... Душно стало народам Европы, и они уже подымают
голову против воинствующей буржуазии.
Русская революция первая пробивает брешь в стене, отделяющей рабочих друг от
друга. В момент всеобщего “патриотического” опьянения русские рабочие первые
провозглашают забытый лозунг: “Пролетарии всех стран, соединяйтесь!”.
При громе русской революции подымаются от спячки и рабочие Запада. Забастовки и
демонстрации в Германии, манифестации в Австрии и Болгарии, забастовки и митинги
в нейтральных странах, все усиливающееся брожение в Англии и Франции, массовое
братание на фронтах – таковы первые ласточки нарастающей социалистической
революции.
А сегодняшний наш праздник, праздник Первого мая – разве это не признак того,
что в потоках крови куются новые узы братства народов?
Горит почва под ногами хищников капитала, ибо вновь взвивается над Европой
красное знамя Интернационала.
Так пусть же сегодняшний день, день Первого мая, когда сотни тысяч рабочих
Петрограда братски протягивают руку рабочим всего мира, – послужит залогом
зарождения нового революционного Интернационала!
Пусть лозунг “Пролетарии всех стран, соединяйтесь!”, раздавшийся сегодня на
площадях Петрограда, облетит мир и объединит рабочих всех стран в борьбе за
социализм!
Через головы хищников капитала, через головы их грабительских правительств
протянем руку рабочим всех стран, провозгласив:
Да здравствует Первое мая!
Да здравствует братство народов!
Да здравствует социалистическая революция!

Pronto hará tres años que la rapaz burguesía de los países beligerantes arrastró al mundo a una sangrienta matanza. Pronto hará tres años que los obreros de todos los países, ayer hermanos entrañables y ahora vestidos con él uniforme de soldado, están unos frente a otros como enemigos y se mutilan y matan, para regocijo de los enemigos del proletariado. Exterminio en masa de las fuerzas vivas de los pueblos, ruina y miseria generales, destrucción de ciudades y aldeas un tiempo florecientes, hambre y embrutecimiento, y todo ello para que un puñado de buitres coronados y sin coronar saquee tierras ajenas y se embolse millones sin cuento. He ahí a dónde conduce la presente guerra. El mundo ha empezado a ahogarse en las zarpas de la guerra... Los pueblos de Europa no pueden soportar más y ya empiezan a revolverse contra la burguesía belicista. La revolución rusa es la primera que abre una brecha en el muro que separa unos de otros a los obreros. En ese momento de embriaguez “patriótica” general, los obreros rusos proclaman los primeros la olvidada consigna: “¡Proletarios de todos los países, uníos!”. Bajo el tronar de la revolución rusa despiertan de su letargo los obreros de Occidente. Las huelgas y las manifestaciones en Alemania, las manifestaciones en Austria y en Bulgaria, las huelgas y los mítines en los países neutrales, la creciente efervescencia en Inglaterra y en Francia, la fraternización en masa en los frentes son las primeras golondrinas de la revolución socialista que se avecina. Y nuestra fiesta de hoy, la fiesta del Primero de Mayo, ¿no es, acaso, una señal de que en los torrentes de sangre se forjan nuevos lazos de fraternidad entre los pueblos? Arde la tierra bajo los pies de los tiburones capitalistas, pues de nuevo flamea sobre Europa la bandera roja de la Internacional. ¡Que el día de hoy, este Primero de Mayo, en el que centenares de miles de obreros de Petrogrado tienden fraternalmente la mano a los obreros de todo el mundo, sea la garantía del nacimiento de una nueva Internacional revolucionaria! ¡Que la consigna “¡Proletarios de todos los países, uníos!” -que hoy ha resonado en las plazas de Petrogrado- vuele por el mundo y una a los obreros de todos los países en la lucha por el socialismo! Por encima de las cabezas de los tiburones del capital, por encima de las cabezas de sus gobiernos expoliadores, tendamos la mano a los obreros de todos los países y proclamemos: ¡Viva el Primero de Mayo! ¡Viva la fraternidad de los pueblos! ¡Viva la revolución socialista!
