Who Are They?
Yesterday we wrote that the Cadets were the moving spirit of the counter-revolution. We affirmed this on the basis not only of “rumours” but of generally known facts—the resignation of the Cadets from the government at the critical moments of the “surrender” of Tarnopol in July and of the Kornilov conspiracy in August. For it could not have been fortuitous that both in July and in August the Cadets were in one camp with the traitors at the front and the most rabid counter-revolutionaries in the rear against the Russian people.
Today, Izvestia and the defencists, those inveterate compromisers with the Cadets, unreservedly confirm what we said about the Cadets yesterday.
“Lvov did not conceal,” write the defencists, “that this (a military dictatorship) is desired not only by General Kornilov, but also by a certain group of public men who at the present moment are at General Headquarters” (Izvestia). And so:
It is a fact that General Headquarters are the headquarters of the counter-revolution. It is a fact that the general staff of the counter-revolution consists of “certain public men.” Who are these “public men”?
Let us see:
“It has been established beyond a doubt that a number of public mem who have very close ideological and personal connections with representatives of the Cadet Party are implicated in the plot” (Izvestia).
And so:
It is a fact that Messieurs the defencists, who only yesterday were embracing the “virile forces” of the country in the person of “representatives of the Cadet Party,” are today compelled to rank them as plotters against the revolution.
It is a fact that the plot has been organized and is being directed by “representatives of the Cadet Party.” Our Party was right when it asserted that the first condition for the victory of the revolution was a rupture with the Cadets.
What Are They Counting on?
Yesterday we wrote that the Kornilov party is the sworn enemy of the Russian revolution; that, after having surrendered Riga, Kornilov would not hesitate to surrender Petrograd in order to ensure the victory of the counter-revolution.
Today Izvestia unreservedly confirms our statement Chief of Staff General Lukomsky, who is the actual soul of the revolt, states that “in the event of the Provisional Government rejecting General Kornilov’s demand, internecine warfare at the front may lead to a breach in the front and the appearance of the enemy in places where we least expect him.”
This sounds, does it not, very much like a threat to surrender Petrograd, say?
And here is an even more explicit statement: “Evidently, in his effort to secure the success of the conspiracy, General Lukomsky will not shrink from downright treason. His threat that the rejection of General Kornilov’s demand may lead to civil war at the front, to the opening of the front to the enemy, and the disgrace of a separate peace can only be regarded as signifying his firm determination to come to an arrangement with the Germans in order to secure the success of the conspiracy.” Do you hear this?—“an arrangement with the Germans,” “opening of the front,” a “separate peace.” . . . There you have the real “traitors” and “treasonmongers”—the Cadets, who “are implicated in the plot,” and who are lending their presence at General Headquarters to hide the threat of an “opening of the front” and an “arrangement with the Germans.”
For months on end these “front-opening” heroes have been reviling our Party, accusing it of “treason” and talking about “German gold.” For months on end the yellow hirelings of the banks, Novoye Vremya and Birzhovka, Rech and Russkaya Volya, have been playing up these vile allegations. And what do we find? Even the defencists are now obliged to admit that the treachery—at the front—is the work of the commanders and their ideological inspirers. Let the workers and soldiers remember this!
Let them know that the provocative howls of the bourgeois press about the “treachery” of the soldiers and the Bolsheviks were only a camouflage for the actual treachery of the generals and the “public men” of the Cadet Party.
Let them know that when the bourgeois press raises a howl about the “treachery” of the soldiers, it is a sure sign that the moving spirits behind that press have already planned treachery and are trying to throw the blame on the soldiers.
Let the workers and soldiers know this and draw the proper conclusions.
Do you want to know what they are counting on? They are counting on “opening the front” and an “arrangement with the Germans,” hoping to capture the war-weary soldiers with the idea of a separate peace and then march them against the revolution.
The workers and soldiers will realize that these traitors at General Headquarters must be shown no mercy. The Conspiracy Continues. . .
Events are moving quickly. Facts and rumours come thick and fast. There are rumours, as yet unconfirmed, that Kornilov is negotiating with the Germans. There is definite talk of a skirmish between Kornilov regiments and revolutionary soldiers near Petrograd. Kornilov has issued a “manifesto” proclaiming himself dictator, the enemy and gravedigger of the conquests of the Russian revolution.
And the Provisional Government, instead of meeting the enemy as an enemy, prefers to confer with General Alexeyev and keeps on negotiating with Kornilov, keeps on pleading with the conspirators who are openly betraying Russia. And the so-called “revolutionary democracy” is preparing for another “special conference on the lines of the
Moscow Conference, to be attended by representatives of all the virile forces of the country” (see Izvestia). And at the same time the Cadets, who only yesterday were howling about a “Bolshevik plot,” are today disconcerted by the exposure of the Kornilov plot, and are appealing for “common sense” and “harmony” (see Rech).
Evidently they want to “arrange” another compromise with those “virile forces” who, while howling about a Bolshevik plot, are themselves conspiring against the revolution and the Russian people. But the compromisers are reckoning without their host; for the real host in the country, the workers and soldiers, want no conferences with enemies of the revolution. The information coming in from the districts and regiments uniformly shows that the workers are mustering their forces, that the soldiers are standing ready to arms. The workers, apparently, prefer to talk with the enemy as an enemy.
Nor could it be otherwise: you don’t confer with enemies, you fight them. The conspiracy continues. Prepare to resist it! Rabochy, No. 5,

Вчера мы писали, что вдохновителями контрреволюции являются кадеты. Мы опирались
не только на “слухи”, но и на общеизвестные факты выхода кадетов из
правительства в критические минуты “сдачи” Тарнополя в июле и заговора Корнилова
в августе. Ибо не могло быть случайностью, что в июле, как и в августе, кадеты
оказались в одном лагере с предателями на фронте и злейшими контрреволюционерами
в тылу против русского народа.
Сегодня “Известия” и оборонцы, эти присяжные соглашатели с кадетами, без
оговорок подтверждают наши вчерашние заявления о кадетах:
“Львов не скрыл, – пишут оборонцы, – что этого (т.е. военной диктатуры) желает
не только генерал Корнилов, но и известная группа общественных деятелей,
находящихся в настоящий момент в Ставке” (“Известия”).
Итак:
Факт, что Ставка есть штаб-квартира контрреволюции.
Факт, что генеральный штаб контрреволюции состоит из “известных общественных деятелей”.
Кто же такие эти “общественные деятели”?
Слушайте дальше:
“С несомненностью установлена причастность к заговору целого ряда общественных
деятелей, находящихся весьма близко в идейной и персональной связи с
представителями кадетской партии” (“Известия”).
Итак:
Факт, что гг. оборонцы, вчера еще лобызавшиеся с “живыми силами” страны в лице
“представителей кадетской партии”, сегодня вынуждены разжаловать их в
заговорщиков против революции.
Факт, что заговор организован и направляется “представителями кадетской партии”.
Наша партия была права, утверждая, что первым условием победы революции является разрыв с кадетами.
На что они рассчитывают?
Вчера мы писали, что партия Корнилова – злейший враг русской революции, что
Корнилов, сдав Ригу, не остановится перед тем, чтобы сдать Петроград, лишь бы
обеспечить победу контрреволюции.
Сегодня “Известия” без оговорок подтверждают это наше заявление:
Начальник главного штаба генерал Лукомский, фактически являющийся душой мятежа,
извещает о том, “что междуусобная борьба на фронте, в случае несогласия
Временного правительства на требование генерала Корнилова, может вызвать прорыв
фронта и появление противника в тех местах, где мы меньше всего его ожидаем”.
Не правда ли: это очень похоже на угрозу сдачей, скажем, Петрограда?
А вот еще более определенное заявление:
“Генерал Лукомский, очевидно, не остановится перед прямой изменой родине,
добиваясь успеха заговора. Его угроза, что отказ исполнить требование генерала
Корнилова повлечет за собой гражданскую войну на фронте, открытие фронта и позор
сепаратного мира, не может быть рассматриваема иначе, как твердая решимость
войти в соглашение с немцами для обеспечения успеха заговора”.
Вы слышите: “соглашение с немцами”, “открытие фронта”, “сепаратный мир”...
“Причастные к заговору” кадеты, покрывающие своим пребыванием в Ставке угрозу
“открытия фронта”, “соглашения с немцами”, – вот где настоящие “предатели” и
“изменники”!
Целыми месяцами обливали нашу партию грязью эти герои “открытия фронта”, обвиняя
в “измене”, говоря о “немецких деньгах”. Целые месяцы размазывали эту гнусную
сказку желтые наймиты банков из “Нового Времени” и “Биржевки”, из “Речи” и
“Русской Воли”. И что же? Теперь даже оборонцы вынуждены признать, что измена на
фронте – дело рук командного состава и его идейных вдохновителей.
Пусть помнят это рабочие и солдаты!
Пусть знают они, что провокаторские крики буржуазной печати об “измене” солдат и
большевиков лишь прикрывали действительную измену генералов и “общественных
деятелей” кадетской партии.
Пусть знают они, что, когда буржуазная печать подымает вой об “измене” солдат,
это верный признак того, что вдохновители этой печати уже подготовили измену,
стараясь взвалить вину на солдат.
Пусть знают это рабочие и солдаты и делают из этого соответствующие выводы. Вы
хотите знать, на что они рассчитывают? Они рассчитывают на “открытие фронта” и
“соглашение с немцами”, думая идеей сепаратного мира увлечь за собой измученных
войной солдат и потом двинуть их против революции.
Рабочие и солдаты поймут, что этим предателям из Ставки не должно быть пощады.
Заговор продолжается...
События бегут. Новые факты и слухи с быстротой проносятся перед нами. Носятся
слухи, еще не проверенные, о переговорах Корнилова с немцами. Определенно
говорят о перестрелке корниловских полков с революционными солдатами под
Питером. Появился “манифест” Корнилова, где он объявляет себя диктатором, врагом
и могильщиком завоеваний русской революции.
А Временное правительство, вместо того, чтобы встретить врагов по-вражески,
предпочитает совещаться с ген. Алексеевым, еще и еще переговаривает с
Корниловым, еще и еще уговаривает заговорщиков, открыто предающих Россию.
А так называемая “революционная демократия” готовится к новому “особому
совещанию по образцу московского, на котором были бы представлены все живые силы
страны” (см. “Известия”).
Вместе с тем кадеты, вчера еще кричавшие о “заговоре большевиков”, сегодня,
подбитые раскрытием корниловского заговора, призывают к “благоразумию” и
“соглашению” (см. “Речь”).
Очевидно, хотят “наладить” новое соглашение с теми самыми “живыми силами”,
которые, крича о заговоре большевиков, сами организуют заговор против революции
и русского народа.
Но они, эти соглашатели, сводят счет без хозяина. Ибо настоящий хозяин страны,
рабочие и солдаты, не хотят иметь никаких совещаний с врагами революции.
Сведения из районов и полков в один голос говорят о том, что рабочие мобилизуют
силы, солдаты стоят под ружьем. Очевидно, рабочие предпочитают говорить с
врагами по-вражески.
Иначе и не может быть: с врагами бьются, а не совещаются.
Заговор продолжается, – готовьтесь к отпору!

¿Quiénes son ellos? Ayer decíamos que los demócratas constitucionalistas son los inspiradores de la contrarrevolución. Nos fundábamos no sólo en “rumores”, sino en hechos del dominio público: la salida de los demócratas constitucionalistas del gobierno en los momentos críticos de la “entrega” de Tarnópol en julio y del complot de Kornílov en agosto. Pues no puede ser casual que en una y otra ocasión hayan formado en un mismo campo, contra el pueblo ruso, al lado de los traidores en el frente y de los contrarrevolucionarios jurados en la retaguardia. Lo que decíamos ayer de los demócratas constitucionalistas lo corroboran hoy sin reservas “Izvestia” y los defensistas, contumaces del entendimiento con ellos. “Lvov no ha ocultado -escriben los defensistas- que esto (es decir, la dictadura militar) lo desea no sólo el general Kornílov, sino también cierto grupo de personalidades públicas que actualmente se encuentran en el Cuartel General”. (“Izvestia”). Así, pues: Es un hecho que el Cuartel General es la sede de la contrarrevolución. Es un hecho que el Estado Mayor de la contrarrevolución lo constituyen “ciertas personalidades públicas”. ¿Quiénes son estas “personalidades públicas”? Seguid escuchando: “Ha sido establecida, sin lugar a dudas, la complicidad en el complot de diversas personalidades públicas relacionadas del modo más estrecho en el terreno ideológico y personal con representantes del partido demócrata constitucionalista” (“Izvestia”). Así, pues: Es un hecho que los señores defensistas, que todavía ayer se hacían carantoñas con las “fuerzas vivas” del país en la persona de los “representantes del partido demócrata constitucionalista”, se ven obligados hoy a degradarlos a la categoría de conspiradores contra la revolución. Es un hecho que el complot ha sido organizado y está dirigido por “representantes del partido demócrata constitucionalista”. Nuestro Partido estaba en lo cierto al afirmar que la primera condición para el triunfo de la revolución es la ruptura con los demócratas constitucionalistas.
¿Cuáles son sus cálculos? Ayer decíamos que el partido de Kornílov ese el enemigo más encarnizado de la revolución rusa, que Komílov después de entregar Riga, no se detendría ante la entrega de Petrogrado con tal de asegurar la victoria a la contrarrevolución. Hoy “Izvestia” corrobora sin reservas estas palabras nuestras: “El jefe del Estado Mayor Central, el general Lukomski –de hecho, el alma de la intentona-, comunica que “si el Gobierno Provisional no se muestra de acuerdo con la demanda del general Komílov, la lucha intestina en el frente puede originar la ruptura de éste y la aparición del enemigo donde menos lo esperemos”. ¿No es cierto que esto se parece mucho a amenazar con la entrega, pongamos por caso, de Petrogrado? Veamos otra afirmación, más clara aún: “Es evidente que el general Lukomski no se detendrá ante la traición manifiesta a la patria para conseguir el éxito del complot. Su amenaza de que la negativa a cumplir la demanda del general Komílov entrañará la guerra civil en el frente, la apertura de éste y el baldón de una paz por separado, no puede ser considerada sino como la firme decisión de llegar a un acuerdo con los alemanes para asegurar el éxito del complot”. Ya oís: “acuerdo con los alemanes”, “apertura del frente”, “paz por separado”... Los demócratas constitucionalistas, “cómplices del complot”, encubriendo con su presencia en el Cuartel General la amenaza de “apertura del frente”, de “acuerdo con los alemanes”: ¡ahí están los verdaderos “felones” y “traidores”! Durante meses enteros estos héroes de la “apertura del frente” han lanzado paletadas de lodo contra nuestro Partido, acusándole de “traición”, hablando del “dinero alemán”. Durante meses enteros los mercenarios amarillos de los Bancos que escriben en “Nóvoe Vremia” y en “Birzhovka”, en “Riech” y en “Rússkaia Volia” han creado esta infame superchería. ¿Y ahora, qué? Ahora hasta los defensistas se ven obligados a reconocer que la traición -en el frente- es obra del mando y de sus inspiradores ideológicos. ¡Recuérdenlo los obreros y los soldados! Sepan ellos que el griterío provocador de la prensa burguesa acerca de la “traición” de los soldados y de los bolcheviques era sólo para ocultar la traición efectiva de los generales y de las “personalidades públicas” del partido demócrata constitucionalista.
El complot continúa
Sepan ellos que, cuando la prensa burguesa vocifera acerca de la “traición” de los soldados, ello es la señal infalible de que los inspiradores de esa prensa han preparado ya la traición y tratan de echar la culpa a los soldados... Sépanlo los obreros y los soldados y saquen de ello las conclusiones pertinentes. ¿Queréis saber en qué basan sus cálculos? Basan sus cálculos en la “apertura del frente” y en el “acuerdo con los alemanes”, suponiendo que con la idea de la paz por separado podrán atraerse a los soldados -en pleno agotamiento a causa de la guerra- y que luego podrán lanzarlos contra la revolución. Los obreros y los soldados comprenderán que hay que ser implacables con los traidores del Cuartel General.
El complot continúa... Los acontecimientos se precipitan. Ante nosotros pasan veloces nuevos hechos y nuevos rumores. Corre el rumor, aun no comprobado, de que Kornílov mantiene negociaciones con los alemanes. Se habla con toda insistencia de tiroteos entre los regimientos de Kornílov y los soldados revolucionarios, cerca de Petrogrado. Ha aparecido un “manifiesto” de Kornílov, en el que se proclama dictador, enemigo y sepulturero de las conquistas de la revolución rusa. Y el Gobierno Provisional, en lugar de tratar a los enemigos como a tales, prefiere consultar al general Alexéiev, habla una y otra vez con Kornílov, intenta una y otra vez disuadir a los conspiradores, que traicionan públicamente a Rusia. Y la llamada “democracia revolucionaria” se apresta para una nueva “conferencia especial, a semejanza de la de Moscú, en la que estén representadas todas las fuerzas vivas del país” (v. “Izvestia”). Al mismo tiempo, los demócratas constitucionalistas, que todavía ayer hablaban a voz en grito del “complot de los bolcheviques”, hoy, malparados por el descubrimiento del complot de Kornílov, hacen llamamientos a la “sensatez” y a la “conciliación” (v. “Riech”). Evidentemente, quieren “arreglar” un nuevo acuerdo con las “fuerzas vivas”, que, mientras vociferan acerca del complot de los bolcheviques, organizan ellas mismas un complot contra la revolución y el pueblo ruso. Mas estos conciliadores hacen sus cálculos sin contar con los dueños, ya que los verdaderos dueños del país, los obreros y los soldados, no quieren ninguna conferencia con los enemigos de la revolución. Las noticias llegadas de los distritos y de los regimientos revelan unánimes que los obreros movilizan sus fuerzas, que los soldados empuñan las armas. Evidentemente, los obreros prefieren tratar a los enemigos como a tales. Y no puede ser de otro modo: con el enemigo no se conferencia, se combate. El complot continúa: ¡preparad la réplica!
