Comrade Lenin,
Just a few words.
1) If Trotsky is going to hand out credentials right and left without thinking—to Trifonov (Don region), to Avtonomov (Kuban region), to Koppe (Stavropol), to members of the French Mission (who deserve to be arrested), etc.—it may be safely said that within a month everything here in the North Caucasus will go to pieces, and we shall lose this region altogether. Trotsky is behaving in the way Antonov did at one time. Knock it into his head that he must make no appointments without the knowledge of the local people, otherwise the result will be to discredit the Soviet power. 2) If you don’t let us have aeroplanes and airmen, armoured cars and 6-inch guns, the Tsaritsyn Front cannot hold out and the railway will be lost for a long time.
3) There is plenty of grain in the South, but to get it we need a smoothly-working machine which does not meet with obstacles from troop trains, army commanders and so on. More, the military must assist the food agents. The food question is naturally bound up with the military question. For the good of the work, I need military powers. I have already written about this, but have had no reply. Very well, in that case I shall myself, without any formalities, dismiss army commanders and commissars who are ruining the work. The interests of the work dictate this, and, of course, not having a paper from Trotsky is not going to deter me. J. Stalin

Несколько слов.
1) Если Троцкий будет, не задумываясь, раздавать направо и налево мандаты
Трифонову (Донская область), Автономову (Кубанская область), Коппе (Ставрополь),
членам французской миссии (заслужившим ареста) и т.д., то можно с уверенностью
сказать, что через месяц у нас все развалится на Северном Кавказе, и этот край
окончательно потеряем. С Троцким происходит то же самое, что с Антоновым одно
время. Вдолбите ему в голову, что без ведома местных людей назначений делать не
следует, что иначе получается скандал для Советской власти.
2) Если не дадите нам аэропланов с летчиками, броневых автомобилей,
шестидюймовых орудий, Царицынский фронт не устоит, и железную дорогу потеряем
надолго.
3) Хлеба на юге много, но чтобы его взять, нужно иметь налаженный аппарат, не
встречающий препятствий со стороны эшелонов, командармов и пр. Более того,
необходимо, чтобы военные помогали продовольственникам. Вопрос продовольственный
естественно
переплетается с вопросом военным. Для пользы дела мне необходимы военные
полномочия. Я уже писал об этом, но ответа не получил. Очень хорошо. В таком
случае я буду сам, без формальностей свергать тех командармов и комиссаров,
которые губят дело. Так мне подсказывают интересы дела, и, конечно, отсутствие
бумажки от Троцкого меня не остановит.

Al Presidente del Consejo de Defensa, camarada Lenin Ha empezado la investigación. Le informaremos de sus resultados sobre la marcha. Por ahora consideramos preciso poner en su conocimiento una necesidad del III Ejército, que no admite demora. Se trata de que en el III Ejército (de más de 30.000 hombres) sólo quedan unos 11.000, cansados, maltrechos, que apenas pueden contener la presión del enemigo. Las tropas enviadas por el Comandante en Jefe no son de confianza, una parte de ellas incluso nos son hostiles y precisan una seria filtración. Para salvar los restos del III Ejército y conjurar el peligro de un rápido avance enemigo sobre Viatka (peligro de todo punto real, según las informaciones proporcionadas por los mandos del frente y del III Ejército) es absolutamente necesario enviar con urgencia desde Rusia, como mínimo, tres regimientos de completa confianza, a disposición del jefe del ejército. Rogamos encarecidamente se ejerza en este sentido la presión necesaria sobre los organismos militares correspondientes. Repetimos: sin estas medidas, Viatka está amenazada de correr la misma suerte que Perm; ésta es la opinión general de todos los camaradas relacionados con este asunto, opinión que nosotros compartimos, basándonos en las informaciones que obran en nuestro poder.
