SPEECH AT THE FUNERAL OF M. V. FRUNZE

Discurso en las exequias de M. V. Frunze

Comrades, I cannot make a long speech. In my present state of mind I am not in the mood for that. I shall say, merely, that in Comrade Frunze we have lost one of the purest, most honest and most fearless revolutionaries of our time. In Comrade Frunze, the Party has lost one of its most faithful and most disciplined leaders. In Comrade Frunze, the Soviet Government has lost one of the boldest and wisest builders of our country and of our state.
In Comrade Frunze, the Army has lost one of its most beloved and respected leaders and creators. That is why the Party so deeply mourns the loss of Comrade Frunze.
Comrades, this year has been an affliction to us. It has torn a number of leading comrades from our midst. But it appears that this was not enough; still another sacrifice was needed. Perhaps it is indeed necessary that our old comrades should so easily and simply go down to their graves. Unfortunately, our young comrades do not so easily and by no means so simply come to the fore to take the place of the old ones.
Let us believe and hope that the Party and the working class will take all measures to facilitate the forging of new cadres to take the place of the old. The Central Committee of the Russian Communist Party has instructed me to express the grief of the whole Party at the loss of Comrade Frunze.
Let my short speech be the expression of that grief, which is boundless, and does not need long speeches.

Товарищи! Я не в состоянии говорить долго, мое душевное состояние не располагает
к этому. Скажу лишь, что в лице товарища Фрунзе мы потеряли одного из самых
чистых, самых честных и самых бесстрашных революционеров нашего времени.
Партия потеряла в лице товарища Фрунзе одного из самых верных и самых
дисциплинированных своих руководителей.
Советская власть потеряла в лице товарища Фрунзе одного из самых смелых и самых
разумных строителей нашей страны и нашего государства.
Армия потеряла в лице товарища Фрунзе одного из самых любимых и уважаемых
руководителей и создателей.
Вот почему так скорбит партия по случаю потери товарища Фрунзе.
Товарищи! Этот год был для нас проклятием. Он вырвал из нашей среды целый ряд
руководящих товарищей. Но этого оказалось недостаточно, и понадобилась еще одна
жертва. Может быть, это так именно и нужно, чтобы старые товарищи так легко и
так просто спускались в могилу. К сожалению, не так легко и далеко не так просто
подымаются наши молодые товарищи на смену старым.
Будем же верить, будем надеяться, что партия и рабочий класс примут все меры к
тому, чтобы облегчить выковку новых кадров на смену старым.
Центральный Комитет Российской коммунистической партии поручил мне выразить
скорбь всей партии по случаю потери товарища Фрунзе.
Пусть моя короткая речь будет выражением этой скорби, которая безгранична и
которая не нуждается в длинных речах.

3 de noviembre de 1925. Camaradas: No me encuentro en condiciones de pronunciar un largo discurso; mi estado de ánimo no me lo permite. Diré únicamente que en el camarada Frunze hemos perdido a uno de los revolucionarios más puros, más honrados y más intrépidos de nuestro tiempo. En el camarada Frunze el Partido ha perdido a uno de sus dirigentes más fieles y más disciplinados. En el camarada Frunze el Poder Soviético ha perdido a uno de los constructores más audaces y más inteligentes de nuestro país y de nuestro Estado. En el camarada Frunze el ejército ha perdido a uno de sus jefes y organizadores más queridos y respetados. Por eso es tan grande el dolor que el Partido siente por la muerte del camarada Frunze. Camaradas: Este año es para nosotros una maldición. Se había llevado ya de entre nosotros a muchos camaradas dirigentes. Pero eso no era bastante y ha hecho falta otra víctima. Tal vez sea realmente necesario que los viejos camaradas desciendan al sepulcro tan fácil y sencillamente. Por desgracia, nuestros camaradas jóvenes no se destacan tan fácil ni, menos aún, tan sencillamente para sustituir a los viejos. Debemos creer, sin embargo, debemos confiar en que el Partido y la clase obrera tomarán todas las medidas necesarias para facilitar la formación de nuevos cuadros que sustituyan a los viejos. El Comité Central del Partido Comunista de Rusia me ha encomendado que exprese el dolor de todo el Partido por la muerte del camarada Frunze. Qué este corto discurso mío sea la expresión de ese dolor, que es infinito y no necesita de muchas palabras.
