Cooper arrived today. The talk will take place tomorrow. We shall see what he has to say about the American plans. I have read Cooper’s sixth report letter on the Dnieper Hydro-Electric Power Station. Of course, the other side must be heard too. However, it seems to me (such is my first impression) that Cooper is right and Winter is wrong. The generally recognised fact that the Cooper type of coffer-dam (which Winter opposed) has proved to be the only suitable one—this fact alone shows that what Cooper has to say must certainly be listened to attentively. It would be well if Cooper’s sixth letter were examined in the proper quarters and accepted in principle. How are things with you? I have heard that Tomsky has it in for you. He is a malicious fellow and not always clean in his methods. It seems to me he is wrong. I have read your report on rationalisation. It is the right sort of report. What more does Tomsky want of you? How are things going at the Tsaritsyn tractor works and the Leningrad tractor workshops? Can we hope they will be a success?

Купер приехал сегодня. Беседа состоится завтра. Посмотрим, что скажет он об американских планах.
Читал 6-ое отчетное письмо Купера о Днепрострое. Нужно, конечно, заслушать и
другую сторону. Мне кажется все же (мое первое впечатление таково), что Купер
прав, а Винтер не прав. Уже тот общепризнанный факт, что куперовский тип
перемычки (против которого спорил Винтер) оказался единственно целесообразным, –
уже этот факт говорит о том, что к голосу Купера надо прислушиваться
обязательно. Хорошо бы обсудить, где следует, 6-ое письмо Купера и принять его в
основном.
Как твои дела? Слышал, что Томский собирается обидеть тебя. Злой он человек и не
всегда чистоплотный. Мне кажется, что он не прав. Читал твой доклад о
рационализации. Доклад подходящий. Чего еще требует от тебя Томский?
Как дела с Царицынским тракторным заводом и тракторными мастерскими в Питере?
Можно надеяться на успех?

He leído la sexta carta en que Cooper da cuenta de cómo van las cosas en las obras de la central hidroeléctrica del Dniéper. Naturalmente, hay que escuchar también a la otra parte. No obstante, me parece (esa es mi primera impresión) que Cooper tiene razón y que Vinter no la tiene. El hecho, por todos reconocido, de que el tipo de ataguía propuesto por Cooper (y discutido por Vinter) ha resultado el único apropiado, ese hecho evidencia por sí solo que debemos, sin falta, prestar oído a Cooper. No estaría mal que se discutiera donde corresponde la sexta carta de Cooper y se aprobara en líneas generales. ¿Cómo van tus cosas? He oído decir que Tomski se dispone a meterse contigo. Es mala persona y no siempre honrado. Me parece que no tiene razón. He leído tu informe acerca de la racionalización. El informe es bueno. ¿Qué más quiere de ti Tomski? ¿Qué tal van los asuntos de la fábrica de tractores de Tsaritsin y de los talleres de tractores de Leningrado? ¿Pueden esperarse éxitos?
