Greetings to the Hero Pilots Who Participated in the Rescue of the Chelyuskinites, April 14, 1934

We are delighted by your heroic work in rescuing the Chelyuskinites. We are proud of your victory over the forces of nature. We are glad that you justified the best hopes of the country and proved yourselves worthy sons of our great Motherland.

We are submitting a petition to the Central Executive Committee of the USSR:

1) for the establishment of the highest degree of distinction, associated with the display of a heroic feat — the title of "Hero of the Soviet Union";

2) for the conferral upon pilots Lyapidevsky, Levanevsky, Molokov, Kamanin, Slepnev, Vodopyanov, and Doronin, who directly participated in the rescue of the Chelyuskinites, of the title of "Hero of the Soviet Union";

3) for the awarding of the Order of Lenin to the said pilots and to the flight mechanics serving them, and for the payment to them of a one-time monetary award in the amount of one year's salary.
