Sokolnikov, of course, was providing information to Talbot about the USSR, about the CC, about the GPU, about everything. Sokolnikov — consequently — was an informant (spy-intelligence agent) of British intelligence.

Note: Sokolnikov (Brilliant), G.Ya. — the first People's Commissar of Finance of the USSR (1923). From 1922 a member, from 1930 a candidate member of the CC. He held a number of high government positions at various times (deputy chairman of Gosplan, chairman of the Oil Syndicate, ambassador to Great Britain, deputy and first deputy People's Commissar of the Timber Industry). In 1936, he was expelled from the Party and arrested. He was charged as a defendant in the open trial of the "Parallel Anti-Soviet Trotskyist Center." In January 1937, he was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. He was killed in prison by his cellmates.

This refers to meetings and conversations between Sokolnikov and the British journalist Talbot.
