Order of the Day, October 13, 1944 Order of the Day, addressed to Army-Generals Maslennikov and Yeremenko, announces that troops of the 3rd Baltic Front with the direct support of the troops of the 2nd Baltic Front, developing their successful offensive, today, October 13, captured by storm the capital of Soviet Latvia, the city of Riga, an important naval base and powerful German defence centre in the Baltic. The Order mentions 117 commanders of troops, sailors, artillerymen, tankmen, airmen, sappers and signallers whose units and formations have distinguished themselves. A salute of 24 salvoes was fired from 324 Moscow guns.
